Salem Ridge Press has set up a fireside time machine that allows you the opportunity to travel back in time.Would you and your family like to join their adventure? They have sought out books from the 1800’s & early 1900’s to republish. They currently have just over 20 books that they have completed with more coming soon. These books are for all ages and will not contain any matter that you need be embarrassed about.
The three books our family had the opportunity to read were:The American Twins of the Revolution by Lucy Fitch Perkins, Mary Jane Her Book by Clara Ingram Judson,Glaucia The Greek Slave by Emma Leslie. They provide a wide variety of historical fiction which serves two purposes - that of enjoyment and of education! Two of the books I read fell into the historical fiction category.
Glaucia The Greek Slave took place during the time of Paul’s imprisonment in Rome.Biblical history and the culture surrounding that time period are explored throughout the book while following the story of 2 youths that are taken as slaves to satisfy their deceased father’s debt.Glaucia and her brother Laon come in contact with a new sect called Christians. The story plays out historical occurrences during their day and describes the culture in which these youths lived. It exposes you, the reader, to what it would have been like to have lived during that day, and the consequences you may have faced for choosing to follow Christ. I generally enjoy well written historical fiction. This one was somewhat predictable. I did enjoy the historical facts that were included in the book and learned a litte more about Biblical history along the way.
I also had the opportunity to read The American Twins of the Revolution. This book fell into the American History category and was probably my favorite read of them all!It takes place during the American revolution and follows a wealthy family’s commitment to the new nation. It explores their courage and willingness to give up not only their worldly wealth, but even risk their own lives for the freedom of our country. This book was based on a true story that was part of our nation’s history! It is a quick read taking me less than an hour to pour through, but it was a very well written book! It is written for ages 8 and up. Although a quick and interesting read for youths and adults, it will reach out to the younger reading crowd as well.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to you!
The last book is one that is part of the children’s category and falls right inline with my 2 daughters (ages 4 & 7) interests!Mary Jane Her Book is exactly that: a story of the life of a little girls and her whims, fancies, games, and experiences! Our daughter’s enjoyed this book since they related to the story told within its pages. This book is very simply written and a somewhat nostalgic tale of a little girl’s life.I think that it is beneficial to set before them as a reader.
This selection is representative of what Salem Ridge Press has to offer.I would encourage you to check out their selection of fireside options as cold weather begins to settle down on our country. As with any publisher and any series you will enjoy some more than others. If you were going to pick one of the 3 we read, I recommend considering The American Twins Of The Revolution. As for the others, I would weigh your interests and intents when deciding. If you are seeking material that is wholesome and won’t present any questionable material, here is your publisher.I generally enjoy things of yesteryear as our family reads and rereads the Little House books. We often read from the McGuffy Readers also. I find this type of literature somewhat appealing. This publisher is definitely worth considering as you set out to provide good reading for your family.
