A day on the farm

I read on Mary Janes Forum about how someone had made a comment about 'trailer trash'. It brought back some painful memories for me. I was raised up in a trailer. I can remember that some kids wouldn't be friends with me because of what I lived in. I was called trailer trash and such. My parents done the best they could to provide a home for us and to put food on the table. No, I didn't wear the name brand clothes or have a new car. But I had a home and there was love in it.  The remarks that kids made really hurt my feelings and to this day, I can still feel the hurt.  Those kids who made those comments are now either trashy themselves or on drugs. No, I don't have much today but I have a home filled with love , food on the table, clothes on my back, a loving husband, and some wonderful kids.

When people hear about Mississippi, they think that we are a bunch of rednecks, who are toothless, marry our cousins, and who hates blacks even in this day and time. Why, because of what the tv and books repesents us.

It is sad how people get stuck with labels. Whether it is being called 'trailer trash' or a 'redneck'. Makes one wonder what are they going to do when they enter heaven's gate and see us trailer trash and rednecks.

yes, it is sad all of the labels that get put on folks in our society.
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that in school and so forth. I read the comments over at MJFarm too and thought..you know..there is a saying..."hurt people..hurt people"..they are to be pitied actually. And I for one prefer being around down to earth folks than the hoity toity's in this life. It's the down to earth folk that make you feel comfy and there's no need for "putting on airs" ..give me real folks anytime. Not those stuffed shirt types and arrogant, stuck up types.

First off, I know some folks seem to think "redneck" is something derogatory (sp??) but that's because we've turned it into that.
:::In Scotland, the National Covenant and The Solemn League and Covenant (aka Covenanters)signed documents stating that Scotland desired a Presbyterian Church Government, and rejected the Church of England as their official church.

Many of the Covenanters Signed these documents using their own blood, and many in the movement began wearing red pieces of cloth around their neck to signify their position to the public. They were referred to as Rednecks. Many of the early inhabitants of the US South were of Scottish Descent, and according to this theory, this term was applied to many of the southern Scottish immigrants early on, eventually changing into the term we know today.:::

As to the "trailer trash", well, I suppose that is my family now as well. We aren't in a trailer park, but on our own land, and living a pretty happy life, trailer and all. Yes, being from 'the north' I didn't look to trailers as truly viable housing. And there are many days here in the South now that I wonder what on earth I live in...seems more like a solar cooker sitting out here than a home sometimes :o)

People are often mean and cruel for no apparent reason. These folks are typically unhappy with themselves and anyone 'different' makes a target. We are a headcovering, plain dressing conservative Christian family...talk about an easy target for most folks ;o)

I would let it slide and just keep those folks in prayer. You had a solid family life with a happy home, food on the table and clothes on your back. What more can someone ask for :o)
