In the Dark

I really want to learn all about cooking from scratch and canning and freezing, but I am literally just starting. This was a desire God put on my heart a few months ago, so I am just a baby. Any help?

Start slow!! Get a good cook book - try a few things in a s*l*o*w* way. Do one dish per day. Take it easy.

Most good cook books have the listing of what abreviations they have. Like TBLS is tablespoon, TSP is teaspoon. Those are the most important ones, I think. My favorite cookbook is "Better Homes and Garden" cookbook. "Betty Crocker" has a good one, too. Just take it slow and easy. Don't hesitate to email me (or anyone on this site) for questions.

You can do it!! Learn to cook, first. Then the rest will follow. Pretty soon you will be cooking without a cookbook!

A book I used when I started canning was the Blue Ball book of Canning. I still refer to it today. It has recipes and illustrations to help you get started!

I'll second the recommendation of the Ball Blue Book. It's a great place to start with canning. It's very intimidating, to be sure, but once you start, you'll find that it's not nearly as hard as it sounds. It's actually pretty fun!
By the way, I looked at your profile, and I think it's *wonderful* that a young woman of your age is interested in getting back to basics. I wish more people your age were as wise.
