I generally like to create at least one hand-made gift for each of my children at Christmas. This year, I started a little too late to do that -- but I did make these two rag-dolls. Both of these are hand-stitched from start to finish (thanks to my presently useless sewing machine) and were a pleasure to make. The best thing is, my girls love them. In fact, my younger daughter has already loved the shoes right off her dolly. :-)

They are wearing their underwear. A pair of bloomers and a petticoat is all I could seem to find time to make. Fortunately, the girls think the petticoats are rather pretty little dresses and they don't seem to miss the blouses and pinafores that I was planning on making. Maybe I will yet, anyway...maybe...

Creating the faces was a little intimidating, but it ended up being the most fun and rewarding part of the process. I used paint, embroidery and a little blush. :-)

I know I didn't finish all I had set out to do, but I am very happy (and more importantly, the girls are very happy) with what I did achieve! :-) I hope they will love these dollies for a long while.

I love the dolls that you made for your girls. Did you make them from a pattern or are they your own design ? If you made them from a pattern, would you please share with us what the pattern is ? I've made quite a few dolls and I'm always on the lookout for pleasing doll patterns. So many today are not natural looking but are exagerated and/or elongated and not pretty AT ALL !
Thanks,
Mary L. |

| I did use a pattern -- it came from an Aussie book, The Best of Women's Weekly Craft (I think that was it -- I'll update if I find out I am wrong about that). |

I love these. My daughter is 11 and still likes her dolls - I would love to make her one before she no longer wants them.
Blessings,
Flossie |
