Saturday, December 30, 2006 - By George, I think I've got it! |
Oh, how I have struggled over this issue, and for ever so long! Well I *think*, maybe, I have a solution... What issue is that, you ask?
Typically I spend all day minding my children, making breakfasts and
lunches, and cleaning my house. Then I make dinner, we eat, and we
clean up from dinner. Soon after, it's time for the children to go to
bed. Generally after they are in bed, I clean up the house *again*,
then I do a video workout for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.
After that, I usually consider myself on free time, LOL. If I
had any energy at midnight or later when I'm through with my day's
responsibilities, I would indulge in a little sewing or some other
craft. However, more often than not, I have lost interest (and some of
my will to live -- just kidding, folks!) by this point and usually
vegetate in front of the television until bedtime. Yesterday,
however, was different. I think it may be the beginning of a new phase
of life for me, LOL. Yesterday, I spent my afternoon sewing instead of cleaning!! In fact, I made a whole dress yesterday for my little girl, Mae, and she wore it to church this morning.
Then, in the evening, I did my usual routine -- and here's the
kicker...the house looked just the same by the time I went to bed as it
usually does when I've spent the whole afternoon cleaning it instead of
sewing!! How that works, I have not quite figured out yet, LOL.
Here's the evidence of the productive day I had yesterday (and plan to
repeat today by making another dress for my other little girl, Grace):
I took photos at every stage of making this dress, and plan to write up
and post an online photo tutorial soon (just in case there's still
anyone in the world who doesn't yet know how to put together a T-shirt
dress -- if you are interested, make sure you have a)a t-shirt that
fits your little girl b)a yard of fabric that matches said t-shirt c)a
working sewing machine and at least enough knowledge of said machine to
put a beginner-level garment together). *ETA* here's the dress
I made today for my "baby" girl, Grace...it doesn't have any appliques
or other embellishments but I think it looks nice, anyway.
Now I am working on a pair of (almost) matching dresses for my little
girls, with layered skirts...I will update with a photo later!
Here is the last dress I will make this year (it's 11:45pm on Dec. 31
here in Perth, Western Australia). Tomorrow I will make my first dress
for next year, that will be almost the same as this one but will have a
slightly different t-shirt:

My little girls haven't seen this yet, but I can guarantee they will
LOOOOOVE it! I'd better get the second one made, or there will be lots
of kitten fights tomorrow!

| oooh, so creative with the double skirt! Cute! I was gonna turn that orange fabric into an apron but I didn't want to iron it, LOL! Looks so cute as a little girlie skirt -- well done! |

I love taking the time to do a project. Something that doesn't get undone as quickly as housework does!
Those dresses are so cute too. Have fun!

Yep, you've got the right idea, my friend. It took me years to figure it out but I finally did. If I leave my "me" time until the end of the day, I'm too tired to do anything except sit or lay.
I can't wait to see your tutorial about the t-shirt dresses. They are sooooooo darling!!! :-) Thank you ahead of time for posting it.
