Sugar Scrub
Posted in Handwork and Crafts

After using a sugar scrub (store-bought) at my sil over Thanksgiving, I decided I could make some of this myself. I looked up several different recipes online. I used the basic idea from several sites and came up with this recipe:
Needed:
Plastic container (I used the small round containters from the $ Tree that hold approx. 1 1/2 cups - --4 containers in the pack)
brown sugar
olive oil
essential oil
Directions:
In the plastic container, place about 3/4 c of brown sugar. Add enough olive oil to cover and have about 1/2 inch of oil left on top of the sugar. Add 1/2 tsp of sandalwood essential oil. Stir.
Rub on skin and rinse off. Use in shower before bathing.
Use weekly or monthly to remove dead skin and moisturize.
It is wonderful as a foot scrub. I have been using this the past few weeks on my heels and they haven't looked this good since I was a child!!
Warning: be careful when using this in the tub. The tub will become slippery!! I use a little of inexpensive shampoo and quickly scrub down the tub after.

Cold & Flu Bar, updated directions

Cold and Flu Bar from Craftbits.com http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do;jsessionid=a7sbDVIo2PC6?projectID=16
I made a number of these for family and friends for Christmas this year. They are simple to make and work wonderfully. I had a mild chemical burn (dry, itchy, flaky skin) on the back of my hand and rubbed this for 2 days on it. It completely disappeared!! So, even if you don't have a cold, this is great for your skin!!
To answer morningsunshine's question below:
I understood it as 1/2 tsp of Vicks per bar (approximately). So... I believe I used 2 pounds each of the beeswax, coconut oil, and cocoa butter and I added Vicks till it smelled strong enough to me. I may have added 4 tablespoonfuls - I can't remember for sure. Also, I used a no brand "Vicks" with ingredients that appeared on the label to be all natural.
I hope this helps. They really are a wonderful skin product!!
