Just an ordinary day
Posted in Everyday life

It has been a while since I have posted, so I thought I ought to jot something down! I do enjoy having blogs, I just don't always faithfully use them!
Today is a ordinary day. I could say it is a boring day, but really it isn't boring, it is just, well, ordinary.
It is good to have ordinary days. I am so glad that - at the moment- there are no major tragedies or hard times in my life. Oh, there are the little things, and I know there will again be hard times, life is never "ordinary" for long, but I am thankful for today!
An ordinary day is a good day!

A Unselfish and Entertaining Guest
Posted in Everyday life
|
We have had the privilege the past 2 days of having a bit of extra company here at our homestead.
He is a very polite guest, only eating the scraps of what others do not want to eat. He is also quite small, gray, has a long nose, a skinny little tale and appears to be blind. He is of course a mole.
He has been nibbling at the seeds on the ground under our birdfeeders. It is fun to watch him him popping in and out of the snow. One of the cutest actions of this little guy is watching when he runs away back to his home (I am guessing that is where he goes!). Being blind he has no way to see what is or isn't in the path up ahead. When he comes upon one of our boot prints in the snow, which is about 8 inches deep, he has no way obviously of knowing it is there. He is just running along his merry way and then "Plop!" he is gone. As though he has fallen off the side of a cliff! He crawls back out of the boot print and runs on again, only to fall into another boot print about a foot or so away. He did this 3 times yesterday before he was out of my line of vision. It didn't discourage him, though. He is back again today nibbling away!

So thankful for a warm, cozy (and lovely!) home
Posted in Everyday life
|
It has been pretty quiet here today. I have been dealing with a sinus cold or something and am having a slow quiet day. I am so blessed on this bitterly cold (7 degrees and very windy) day to have a lovely, warm home to be in! I am enjoying looking out at the wind blowing the snow around and am so glad to be inside today.
While sitting here, I have realized it is so easy to take the "small" things for granted. Recently I saw on the news that a homeless shelter in a nearby town was closing it's doors during the day and the homeless of that town had nowhere to go in the below freezing weather. They weren't wanted in local stores, malls, restaurants, etc. After watching a few interviews of these homeless folks, it made me VERY thankful for my home. I also thought, "there aren't any JOBS the city could have these folks doing during the day?" They all looked able bodied. But maybe they were unable to work or unwilling. Either way, the Lord has told us in his Word that the poor will always be among us and we are to pity and help them (my paraphrase!). It is so easy to complain over what I have - our roof is leaky and my kitchen ceiling needs to be fixed, my upstair bathroom needs to be painted, etc.
How can I complain about a roof or upstair bath, when these folks don't even have a "roof over their heads" and even one bathroom, let alone the luxury of 2!!! So, maybe right now I'm not in a position to help these folks financially and I certainly couldn't invite a group of homeless men to my home to spend the day (!!) but I certainly can pray for them and their situation and praise and thank the Lord for what I have!
