So thankful for a warm, cozy (and lovely!) home

It has been pretty quiet here today. I have been dealing with a sinus cold or something and am having a slow quiet day. I am so blessed on this bitterly cold (7 degrees and very windy) day to have a lovely, warm home to be in! I am enjoying looking out at the wind blowing the snow around and am so glad to be inside today. While sitting here, I have realized it is so easy to take the "small" things for granted. Recently I saw on the news that a homeless shelter in a nearby town was closing it's doors during the day and the homeless of that town had nowhere to go in the below freezing weather. They weren't wanted in local stores, malls, restaurants, etc. After watching a few interviews of these homeless folks, it made me VERY thankful for my home. I also thought, "there aren't any JOBS the city could have these folks doing during the day?" They all looked able bodied. But maybe they were unable to work or unwilling. Either way, the Lord has told us in his Word that the poor will always be among us and we are to pity and help them (my paraphrase!). It is so easy to complain over what I have - our roof is leaky and my kitchen ceiling needs to be fixed, my upstair bathroom needs to be painted, etc. How can I complain about a roof or upstair bath, when these folks don't even have a "roof over their heads" and even one bathroom, let alone the luxury of 2!!! So, maybe right now I'm not in a position to help these folks financially and I certainly couldn't invite a group of homeless men to my home to spend the day (!!) but I certainly can pray for them and their situation and praise and thank the Lord for what I have! ~Penni |
