Our Little Homestead
I thought I might describe our little "homestead". We live on 5 acres in rural Maine. Approximately 3 1/2 of those acres are wooded - well mostly alders and pussy willows, it was a field 15 years ago. :) My husband made a wonderful nature path several years ago for me throughout our woods. This time of year I love to walk or snow shoe around and look at all the animal tracks.

We have 2 small vegetable gardens, which provide all our corn, green beans, and usually tomatoes for the whole year, as well as, fresh lettuce, radishes, etc. in season. We have a rhubarb patch, one small herb garden and numerous flower beds.

We have 2 pigs on our homestead. We joke that we are truly homesteaders because we do have pigs. Although our pigs are guinea pigs - not the farm yard variety. They serve no purpose of practicality on our little place here. But they do give us a lot of pleasure and enjoyment watching them and playing with them, so they are invaluable to us! :)

Someday I would love to have milk goats and a few chickens. That is my dream for our little homestead.

I encourage you to get chickens! We used to have a lot of them prior to moving here. How, we miss them and the eggs! They are really very easy to care for. Someday I hope to have them again.
