Toadflax Farm

Posted on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 08:19

The unofficial name of our farm is Toadflax Farm.  Two year ago we built our barn with our own 8 hands.  That is me, my husband and our 2 children (10 and 12 years they were 8 and 10 when we built the barn.  We now have 3 goats, 3 rabbits (meat) and a bunch of chickens (I lost count).  Every year we become more and more self reliant.  This spring we expanded our garden from 300 sq. ft. to over 1000 sq. ft.  I have been able to can and freeze a lot including blackberry jam(from wild berries in the back yard), peach jam, tomato sauce, summer squash(frozen), pickles, green beans, peas, swiss chard and zucchini bread made from some giant Costata Romanesca zukes.  We still have more tomatoes on the way along with pumpkins, soldier beans, more zukes, more chard, carrots, 1 lonely hubbard squash, maybe more blackberries and some peppers.

Hopefully in the spring we will be milking the goats.  We have a neighbors buck that Is staying with us for a few months.  He'll go home in November sometime.  I don't think this farm would have been possible without the help of our neighbors.  They have done so much for us.  From giving us animals to lending us their tractor for a WEEK!  They have been so nice to us.
