or something like that...seems I remember such a saying from my childhood. The 2006 Mid-Atlantic Direct Marketing Conference was a good one and quite enjoyable. The participants were good listeners, asked good questions, shared their experiences...all in all, a very good time. Due to mis-communication on my part, I was scheduled to teach a seven hour (!) class on Saturday. Usually, I teach about a 3 hour class and at the end of seven hours, my body was *hurting*. I'm not used to standing for seven hours and as soon as I packed up, I began driving to Virginia. That was a little after 4:00 p.m. and I arrived at the Hampton Inn Winchester a little after 7:00 p.m. If ever I have said I loved a bed, other than mine own, it has to be Hampton Inn. They have wonderful feather top on their mattresses and down pillows which simply cuddle one's body with TLC. The best nights sleep I've ever had (aside from my own bed) has been at Hampton Inn. Also, as soon as I had gotten to my room, the kind, dear front desk clerk called to make sure I was all right. When I checked in he commented on how tired I looked. Hampton Inn should pay me for a commercial, doncha think? ![]() The workshop was Increasing Farm Income Using Agri-Culture, Agri-Education, Agri-Tainment and Agri-Tourism. Most people said they learned a lot, I saw a lot of people scribbling notes and many came up to me at lunch and afterwards and thanked me for teaching. I suppose there were around seventy-five people taking the class. How gratifying when someone makes an effort to say "thank you". It made all the little inconveniences fade into the background. I told them there had been a party outside my door until after 3:00 and the hotel staff seemed to think I was complaining because I couldn't get to sleep for the shouting, partying, drinking and general carousing. Silly me and yes, I did feel better when some of them said they had similar parties outside their doors! Misery loves company at times. People wanted me to give them my notes but after I explained I am in process of writing a book (same title) they understood and asked to be placed on a "notify list". Again, how kind. It's gratifying to know people appreciate the effort, time, expense, etc. that goes into preparing for such a class. I am so very grateful for the opportunity to have taught so many and hope to expand my territority. Today, I slept in til 8:00 and it was nice to have that little extra time in bed. Today was lovely, a bit frigid with a stout wind, but clear and with no hint of the winter weather headed our way tonight. We're to have rain mixed with snow and then clear skies on Wednesday. That's nice because I'm to meet Leslie, Greenberry house, for lunch on Wednesday. We're partnering again and want to get our ducks in a row, so to speak, before the events. We went to the feed store to buy horse and sheep minerals and white loose salt. All the animals were out of minerals and salt and that's crucial to their health. Everyone was happy to tuck their noses into the minerals when I poured them upon arriving home. Tammy, at the feed store, is also a horse trainer and I'm scheduled to take riding lessons from her. She's also going to train some of my horses for me and help me prepare them for sale. I'm looking forward to getting to know her better. She and her husband, Danny, help with the work and the reward at haying time and I like both of them a lot. The day has slipped away from me and my work isn't half completed. For some reason, I've been hungry all day and now that it's supper time want to eat again. What a joy it is to be home! { Last Page } { Page 24 of 29 } { Next Page } |
