Thanksgiving Surprise Visit

{ 12:03, Saturday, November 25, 2006 } { 4 comments } { Link }
Yesterday was thanksgiving - and we slept in. Our dinner was not planned until 4:30 p.m., and since we were not doing the bulk of the cooking (we were invited elsewhere)... we had the luxury of being asleep at 9:00 a.m. Around 9:15 a.m. as we were hitting the snooze button again our phone rang. Our daughter brought the phone to us and we saw on caller ID it was my friend Deb. I figured I could call her back when I got up - and then someone started knocking on the door!!!!
It was pouring buckets yesterday. Whoever it was was getting wet as my hubby dashed into his jeans and opened the door. There was Deb, bearing gifts.... a dandy box with a chai bread mix and some loose leaf black tea with orange in it. She also had cupcakes for all. Weren't we thankful.

Today we had another sleep-in day, and relaxed around the house. Then hubby and I got to go to a movie together and have a quiet dinner out. Another day to be thankful.

In a week we will celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary (Dec. 4). I am thinking about it already - blogging buddy Darcy celebrated her anniversary by writing about how she met her beloved. Not a bad idea, so in the spirit of things I am gathering up my thoughts.

Have you put up Christmas decorations yet? It does not "feel" like Christmastime yet... we need to find a small tree to put up while construction continues at the house. Not much room for the regular sized tree. And maybe we'll dig out my daughter's blow-up snowman for the yard. She considers yard art the most fantastic thing.

That's it for now, just checking in during the long holiday weekend. Hubby & I saw the movie "Bobby." Not bad, actually. Note the timing for the release of this film - on Nov. 22 '63 brother JFK was assassinated (if you don't know, the movie Bobby is about Robert Kennedy and people who were at the scene of his shooting that day in June of 1968).

Anyone Christmas shop today? I've seen a lot of posts today talking about how folks are opting for "simpler" holidays. A great idea, certainly one that takes away a lot of the stress of Christmas and let's you focus on the main reason we celebrate. By the way, don't be afraid to say Merry Christmas this year. So many major stores are now refusing to use that phrase in their advertising or in their stores.

Hi Chris. Glad you got some extra rest this weekend. That is really something to be thankful for! I would love to read the story about how you and your husband met. I always enjoy a good romance. Congratulations to you! You mentioned that your friend brought some chai bread. Any chance she would share the recipe? My daughter loves chai anything. It's snowing today and it is so pretty. Blessings from the Big Sky Country.......Denise (prairiemom)

Hi there!

So glad to hear that you got a bit of time to sleep in (fun that you got the surprise visit even though she woke you up!) and go out on a date! I'll be looking forward to reading your anninversary blog :). As Denise said, it's snowing here today and we've so far accumulated about 9 inches in the past 2 days. It's a winter wonderland outside. Beautiful but COLD to work in!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I added you to my friends list so I can find you again. I like the Anniversary Blog Idea but I don't know if I can pull it off. Mine is Tomorrow -Nov 29,(26yrs). And we had a couple of sleep-in days too, but no rain. We woke up at 7:15 a.m. instead of our usual 3:50 (dh has to be to work by 5) and I am usually awake between 5 and 6. It was nice.
Hope you have a Great Day.
Sincerely, Brenda
