Butter

Posted in Recipes

Ok - So I cheated   I did'nt have the time for the milk to thaw

What I did was :

1 quart mason jar w/ lid

14oz of heavy whipping cream - placed in jar, put just enough in jar where the milk can still slosh

Now - start sloshing the milk until you see it starting to become solid

Pour off the buttermilk and add to jar about 1/4 cup of ice water - continue to slosh

Now - In your jar should be mostly a solid chunk of butter - drain what liquid is in jar and scoop the water into a bowl - now you have to wash the butter to get the rest of the buttermilk out. Add moore ice water and start pressing and draining ( you can use a wooden spatula if you don't have a butter paddle)

Continue this until water runs clear - During this process you can add some flaked salt if you want your butter slightly salted. -   Yeh! You now have butter

Put in fridge to chill

The kids in our Homeschool group made butter this way one year. We did it for a Thanksgiving activity. They loved seeing that butter form!

Thanks for the memory!
