I am sore.  And tierd. We did lots of work today. Cleaned up our large garden area, and roto-tilled it!  We also bought 6 concord grape plants, 3 Caco (Red table grapes), and 3 white table grape plants.  Also we planted 3 blackberry bushes. Tomorrow morning we plan on planting a bunch of seed. We will be planting. Cabbage, both green and red, broccoli, brussell sprouts, cauliflower, kalorabi, leeks, celery, peas (both chinese flat peas, and sugar peas for freezing!), beets, okra. I know I have forgotten something.....but next week we plan on planting our potatoes(We are in IDAHO), and onions, and corn. Then in May we will get our zucchini and other squash plants planted, and melons, also the tomatoes and peppers that we started inside planted. Our fruit trees that we planted last year are doing well. All are flowering I hope we get a bit from them this year! We have also been getting between 8-12 eggs a day now from our chickens!!! This has been so great! I hated feeding our chickens all winter with nothing!!!! Spring is here!!!!!!!!!!!

"Its raining, its pouring...."

Posted in gardening

It is definately been busy this week. Homeschooling, cleaning. DH was home this weekend! Thank heavens! We love our time with DH!!
(For those that dont know, my DH is a over the road truck driver)(We hate it and are always trying to find something that will allow him to be home with us on a permanent basis.)(If he could have his way, he would farm....but it is a rich mans hobby now a days....)
Anyway.......We picked all of our pumpkins, banana squash, spagetti squash, butter nut, and acorn squash on Saturday. Also pulled all of our peppers( green, jalepeno, and banana) Pulled our purple, and green cabbage. Also pulled two laundry baskets of tomatoes. One red and the other orange and green. Forcast was for frost this weekend. But we didnt get it. I still have over twenty plants, so I might pick the best of the green ones to last us out there the week.
Might also make some green tomato relish.
My mom gave me her victorio ( I think this is what you call it!) It juices fruit and vegetables.) I was excited.
Have a bunch of things to do. We have a homeschooling activity today. We were supposed to play kickball, but will probably end up in the public library reading, because it has been raining all night. Autumn has hit IDAHO!

Garden~September

Posted in gardening

Fall crop of beets (2nd crop of the summer)Broccoli( Our first time...not doing so well.)
Cabbage. We have so much cabbage! We grew both green and purple cabbage this year.
Fall crop of Peas.  (This is our 2nd crop this summer. Should harvest next month!)

We have so many tomatoes~!!!! I started all of our tomato plants this winter inside with my 8 year old as a 2nd grade science unit. We have over 52 tomato plants! We have made salsa, sauce, sweet and sour sauce, canned tomatoes, and I am going to do some V-8 juice next week!

We have had such a awesome garden this year. We heard from the place that we got seeds from that we could get a fall crop of spinach, beets, peas, and lettuce. So we have them in and they are growing wonderfully. We are also picking about 2-3 cantaloupes every day too!

GARDEN! GARDEN! GARDEN!

Posted in gardening

WE worked hard in the garden today! We picked 8 quarts of beets, 5 heads of cabbage, about 10 carrots, 2 heads of romaine lettuce. A quart bag of peas...(probably the last of this batch), and a laundry basket and big silver bowl of green beans. Also two buckets of cukes!
I am overwhelmed with the produce. The Lord has blessed us with an abundance, I just need some stamina to go with it. Also some cooler weather! We dont have an air conditioner, so we are very warm!
