Its that time again. Here in Maine they just opened up the fields. They claim its going to be a very short picking season. I'm in hopes to go on Wednesday.
My question is how many of you can~freeze~ strawberries?Last year I put them in jars with a little sugar and froze them and they were great.
I'm not sure what I want to do this year. I'm looking for ideas.. I'm open????
Thanks for stopping by..

I love strawberries - they go so well in any dessert. I have frozen them in jars before with a "simple syrup" (sugar and water). They stayed good for a long time and were very good! They seemed to keep their firmness better than if just frozen. I have also made strawberry jam, spiced strawberry jam, strawberry rhubarb jam, strawberry peach jam. My strawberries won't be ripe for probably a few more weeks...yummy!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I will be making some jam we were told its going to be a short season. I want to go and tomorrow maybe we have rain just about every day hard to plan anything.Thanks for stopping in...
We use strawberries for jam, freeze for smoothies, make syrup for ice cream, and you can also make strawberry pie! Our berries don't come on until the end of July, so also remember to say a word of thanks for getting them so early:-)
Amen on that.. I don't know anything about a smoothie can u make in food processor? just wonder. I don't have a blender or there special machine. Thanks for stopping by
Hey! I am really enjoying your blog! I wish I had known about freezing the strawberries in the jars with sugar. I picked about 20 lbs this past Friday. My friend was with me and she and her daughter picked another 20. I just froze them in freezer bags. Do you think they will be OK? I hope to get to go pick again. Our local farmer is letting us glean from what is left in his field. He is ready to pull them up. He gave me some of his runners but I don't have beds ready :( I think I am going to put them in large pots for now. As for the soap, it has been several years since I made it. It is a lye soap that is white. It resembles ivory when it cures properly. It can be used for bathing or laundry. I will be glad to send you the recipe. It may take awhile to dig it out but I am sure I still have it. Just let me know if you want it :)
