My Lovely Homestead

• Saturday, December 6, 2008 - How Young Is Too Young For A Boy To Shave?

Posted in Everyday Living

This is a question I didn't think I would have to worry about for quite a few years. So how young is too young for a boy to start shaving? 14? 12? 10? How about 3 years old?

Hold on to your pants because this post is funny, cute and a bit scary. My twin DS watchs DH shave all the time. And of course being 3 years old he just idolizes his daddy. He wants to wear the same clothes as daddy. Play pretend daddy with his twin sister (who pretends to be mommy). And twin DS even has an imaginary "daddy's car" that he pretends to drive around the house.

Well yesterday, DH comes home from work and grabs a shower and shaved while in the shower. DH ended up leaving the razor in the sower which is a BIG NO NO in this house, but he forgot.

I called the twins in the bathroom to brush their teeth and while I was brushing twin DD's teeth, twin ds was sitting on the tub waiting for her to get done. I wasn't really paying too close attention to him because what trouble could he get into sitting on the tub while I was in the same room... well, I learned my lesson on this one. I must ALWAYS keep one eye on this boy!

Twin DD was fussing because she didn't like the mint taste ( I ran out of their little bear tooth paste). She was pulling away from me and I had to keep all my attention on her because she was making me and her and the floor a mess. Once I was done with her I realized twin DS was standing in the tub and I told him to get out. When I looked at him his lip was bleeding from the top lip and the bottom lip.  I grabbed him and wiped him. No big deal, just small cuts. I couldn't imagine what he could have cut himself on seeing as how the only thing in the shower was Soap and shampoo bottle. Then I saw the razor and I asked him what he did and he told me he was "tending to be daddy." well, I knew what he meant, he tried to shave!!!!

Luckily, he didn't cut himself bad, just little nicks. But boy, that could have been a horrible accident! I swear this boy is a handful for me. I'm telling ya, he is either going to break a bone, poke his eye out or steal my truck by the time he is 5!

The funny part of this story is that later that night I stopped by my brothers house. Twin DS had a band-aid on his lip (he insisted it would make him feel better but it really didn't cover the cut at all, lol) and when my brother saw him he asked twin Ds, "what happened? Did you cut yourself shaving?" DH and I laughed and said, well, as a matter of fact he did! LOL!

Oh, what a funny little boy I have. may God help me... or him, lol.

LOL I'm sorry we had a problem with our grandson doing the same thing.. And he loves to put aftershave lotion on.. Ok when he was around 3-5 we had that problem on him wanting to shave and then..I was shopping at Wal-mart one christmas many years ago and I found a shaving kit for kids.. That did it he loves it he will be 10 in Jan and he still uses it.. So be on the look out with the gift items and you might find one and I bet he would love it..

So cute. Be thankful they are pretending to be dad. We need more of that these days! I have three boys and I am thankful they are all men! Keep on working with them. You will be blessed for it.
