Life At The Bear Den

• Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - Did You Know Squirrels Eat M&M's?

Posted in Everyday Living

Did that get your attention? Yes, it is true, squirrels do eat M&M's. I usually feed the squirrels around here during the winter time. I normally give them bread because whenever I give them peanuts they bury them and don't eat them and then they come back looking for more food. So i give them bread instead. I do give them peanuts when there is snow on the ground because I have notice that they won't bury them in the snow. So the other day it snowed here and the squirrels were on my deck looking for food. I thought I would give them a treat and give them one of my kids nature trail mix. In the mix there are peanuts, sunflower seeds, raisins and M&M's. I didn't feel like picking out the M&M's so I just dumped the bag on the picnic table and thought they would just not eat them and pick what they like. So I go back in my house and we're (the kids and I) are looking out the kitchen window and watched the squirrels dig through the mix. they picked up a peanut and put it down. They picked up a raisin and put it down. They picked up a M&M and started eating it! Isn't that funny! And the most funny thing about it is that they were spitting off the candy coating like it was a peanut shell and just eating the chocolate, lol! It was hillarious! Who knew?

So I've been pretty busy with Thanksgiving preparations. Tomorrow morning I am throwing in the first turkey to cook. I will pick it and debone it after it cools. Thanksgiving morning I will cook the second turkey. Altogether we will have 46 pounds of turkey to eat. Sound like alot right? No, not really, not with all my hungry kiddos eating, lol.

here's the Thanksgiving menu for our house :

Turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, sweet taters, peas, corn, brussel sprouts, cranberry sauce, gravey, fried califlower, dinner rolls, pickled eggs, potato salad, veggie tray, salami tray (includes pepperoni, garlic bologna, sharp cheese, swiss cheese), nuts, pumpkin pie, apple crumb pie, cookie tray, brownie tray, candy tray... I might be forgeting one or two things but y'all get the idea.

At least with all this food i shouldn't have to cook until Sunday

I've been planning our trip to Michigan to look at houses. We have three houses that really stand out to us. I'm hoping at least one looks really good to us and we make an offer.

I am planning to be in Michigan for 4 days but it may be 5. We have only 3 houses that really stand out to us and the only problem is that they aren't even close to one another  they are in seperate towns which are at least an hour away from one another. One is in Jerome, the next one is in Dowling and the third house is in Grant. So our plan is to look at one on one day and the other on the next day and the last one on the third day and then make an offer on the forth day. Each house we like has alittle over 3 acres and are all over 2000 square feet with at least 4 bedrooms... I believe one of the houses has 5 bedrooms.

I do hope one of these houses are meant to be ours. The one house that I really, really, like, which is at the base of a mountain and has no houses close by it at all, has been on the market for almost 3 years. yes, I know 3 years! I can only imagine that there must be something wrong with it but all the pictures look nice. Um, the house does have a metal roof that is rusted in the picture so we are going with the thought that that house will need a new roof to it. We are keeping that in mind. That house is only 89 thousand. So you see why I think there might be something wrong with it. I wish we lived closer because if all three aren't good then we are back at square one and it puts me back behind in my schedule.

I can only leave it in the Lords hands and let him lead our path. if they work out then it was meant to be and if they don't work out then I know we are to wait alittle bit and see what better houses come along.

I hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy all your family and friends! Don't eat too much
