Monday, June 2, 2008 - 52nd Homesteading Carnival....... Construction Zone

Posted in HS Carnival

I'd like to welcome you to the 52nd Homesteading Carnival.  I'm so glad you stopped by.  The theme this week is.....

Why construction?  Well, my house is under construction right now.  (In more than one way).  After the carnival feel free to scroll down and read about our house construction and look at pictures.  Come back as I'll post more pictures through the construction period.  So since I'm living among the zone I might as well write among it too.  There were so many entries this week we'd better get started.

However, before we get into the carnival we'd better get equipped with all the necessary items for a construction zone.....

safety glasses and ear plugs may be needed also.  oh, yes you many need this too...

Before we get started I want to say, "Pardon our mess there is....

First we may want to hire Miss Jocelyn to take pictures of your construction progress.  She has been getting into  photography some and was playing around with different effects.  She has shared with us in her post some unique little touches she's added to one picture to make them look really neat.
Go ahead read her So Sweet and Simple article.  I think the effects are cool.  Way to go girl!

Miss Amanda has also shared with us some Cuteness and Otherly News   in her blog post she submitted from the Daily Planet.  Even though we are in a construction zone we are on planet Earth.

There's always the behind the scenes work on any construction site.  And that is no different at the Walking H Ranch.  Join Jen as she interviews Connie about her role at the Walking H Ranch.  Very interesting interview.  You will find it at her site  The Farmer's Wife   Why shouldn't a farmer and a rancher get along?

How about another out-door stop.  Stephanie @  Stop the Ride!   has posted an interesting article about an event that only takes place every 17 years.  Let's take a walk into the forest with her and see what this event is.

While we're outside Grandma Rosie's is a good spot to stop by and learn how to build a beautiful  Herb Garden Wall  .  Take a stroll over there and see maybe you'll want to build one.

Brenda @ the C farm..... Our home  has shared pictures of her newly constructed Flower Bed .  Oh, boy does it look like she did a lot of work on it.  Nice job Brenda!  Mine doesn't look like that especially since the roofers and siders have been tromping on it.

How to Me   has shared with us some information concerning storing onions (and potatoes for that matter).  I may have to use this knowledge as I have close to 70 onion plants in the garden.  That is if they survive the construction zone they are among.  I'm always in for a good tip.

Grab your.....

We're going to head inside to the kitchen.  The place everyone loves the best.

As always when people work hard they get hungry.  We're going to head into the kitchen to eat our lunch and see what Dora and her kids have made up for us to snack on.  No, it isn't bugs either.  I wondered about this when I flipped to her  Y-2K Hippie   site, but scroll on down to find the yummy brownie snack.  Now who can resist warm brownies with milk?  Not me, it's chocolate!  Oh, boy am I hungry now.  Grab the recipe and try a batch then let me know how they turned out.  I'm sure they'll be a bit hit for our hard working crew.

Cool off with this Berry Lemonade or Orange Apricot Tea  from Grandma Rosie's site.  It will be a nice refreshing break.  While you're at Grandma Rosie's visit her archives she has all kinds of things to offer you: food, drinks, crafts, tips and all kinds of know-how things for the constructive (do-it-yourself) kind of person.

OR maybe you'd like to construct this yummy treat for your crew.  Schatzi @ New Beginnings has posted a recipe for Puff Pancake .  If it doesn't look yummy!  I think the crew would be pleased with it.  Sounds like her crew was.

Then there is Andrea over at Blessings Hobby Farm that has posted a recipe for a jelly that I'm sure we all have the main ingredients for.  Can you guess what it is?   Hint:  I'm almost sure you'd find plenty of them right in your own front yard.   Dandelions.  Yep, that is what she made Dandelion Jelly.   Check it out  the Recipe  and Pictures .

Now we can stop in the living room and watch as Susan  @ Farm Life...Farm Wife                          teaches her kids how to spin wool with a spinning wheel.  Oh, boy it does look like they are having a heap of fun!

At the Good Life has shared pictures of the construction of her quilt .  Go ahead take a look at it.  It is going to be beautiful.  You rock girl!  She also is sharing step-by-step directions at the beginning of the each month for a quilt square.  Go ahead try your hand at it.  My daughter and I are doing them.  Though we are behind we'll catch up I'm sure.  I had forgotten this was a new month til I clicked on her link and saw  June's square posted.

We maybe need to head back to the bedroom and do some work there.   Every year, thousands of people purchase mattresses, only to find that their new mattresses are as uncomfortable as the old ones.   Happy Housekeeping   has offered us some tips on picking the best mattress.  Head over there and see if maybe you can make your bed a little more suitable for your needs.

Once your construction is all complete you'll want to host people at your house.  Our final stop for our carnival this week is with GP @  The Innside Scoop  .  She has a wonderful article on Hosting House Guest.

I want to thank you for stopping by the carnival this week.   I trust you enjoyed the Zone.  Also thank all of you for submitting  articles  for others to read.  If you didn't submit an article this week why not submit one for next week.  It is really easy with the Carnival Submission Form.
I'm not sure who is hosting the carnival next week.  You can check the Schedule Here.
