I think outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas my third most favorite holiday would have to be 4th of july. There is just something that swells inside me when I see anything patriotic. As a tribute to our Great America I'm posting this video for you all to view. I do trust you'll take the time to follow the link and see our Great America as it plays through the 50 states. This is so touching. I love it. I've watched it more than once and I'll probably watch it again.
And I do want to thank all that have fought for our freedom.
I always look forward to seeing what kind of freebies Jamin gives in the Homeschool Minute e-newsletter that I receive. I haven't looked at them all but sure sounds like some fun ones again. So I'm sharing it for you all to pass on the wealth of information.
American citizens were taught at home by their parents or hired tutors. The model of one-on-one teaching is hard to beat! I looked around for a good "History of Homeschooling" online and the best one I found was on Wikipedia. Here is the article. If you are interested in learning more about how homeschooling came to be what it is today you will want to read this article.
As a homeschool mom I owe a debt of gratitude to the many people who homeschooled before me. It is amazing to me to see what has happened in the movement in the 13 years we have been involved in it. I remember when I first started telling people we were going to homeschool back in the early 1990's the common response was "Is that legal?" From that we have gone to pretty much an acceptance of homeschooling as a viable option for education in most people's minds.
So join me in celebrating the people who paved the way for us today! Below are some interesting links and freebies that have to do with how homeschooling has gotten to where it is today.
Here is an article entitled The Founders of the U.S.A. Learned Without Public School.
Here is a fun and encouraging list of Famous Homeschoolers. If you have never looked up a list like this, it is fun to look at and think about the possibilities of the future of our kids.
At the Moore Foundation you can learn about the Moore Formula developed by homeschool pioneers, Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore. Dr. Moore has frequently been called The Grandfather of Homeschooling.
Here is the book Underground History of American Education by John Taylor Gatto free to read online. John Taylor Gatto is a former teacher and education activist. He has written many books on the problems with public education. HERE is a site with links to many of his writings in pdf form, including his 1990 Teacher of the Year speech where he lambasted the public school system in America.
Here is an interesting interview with John Holt, a public school teacher in the late 1970's who became one of the best known proponents of homeschooling. HERE you will find the frequently asked question section of the John Holt website.
HSLDA has the transcripts to several of their radio programs on the theme of Homeschooling Through History. You will find them HERE.
Charlotte Mason has had a huge influence on homeschooling. If you missed the free links I provided in THM last week you will find them HERE.
Rachel Hauck is a forty-something, a child of the '60's, '70's, '80's, '90's and '00's, who roller skated through the '70's into the '80's with Farrah Fawcet hair and a three-speed orange Camero. She graduated from Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) with a degree in Journalism.
After graduation, she hired on at Harris Publishing as a software trainer, determined to see the world. But, she's traveled to Ireland, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Australia, Canada and the U.S. from California to Maine.
Rachel met Tony, her husband, in '87, at church, of all places. They married in '92.
They don't have any children of their own, just lots of kids-in-the-Lord and they love them all. However, they do have two very spoiled dogs, and a very demanding cat.
With a little help from my friends, my first book was published in ' 04, Lambert's Pride, a romance novel. My current release is Sweet Caroline from Thomas Nelson. Romantic Times Book Club gave both books their highest rank of 4.5 stars, with Love Starts With Elle being honored as Top Pick!
ABOUT THE BOOK
Elle's living the dream-but is it her dream or his?
Elle loves life in Beaufort, South Carolina-lazy summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires, and dinners with friends sharing a lifetime of memories. And she's found her niche as the owner of a successful art gallery too. Life is good.
Then the dynamic pastor of her small town church sweeps her off her feet. She's never known a man like Jeremiah-one who breathes in confidence and exhales all doubt. When he proposes in the setting sunlight, Elle hands him her heart on a silver platter.
But Jeremiah's just accepted a large pastorate in a different state. If she's serious about their relationship, Elle will take "the call," too, leaving behind the people and place she loves so dearly. Elle's friendship with her new tenant, widower Heath McCord, and his young daughter make things even more complicated.
Is love transferable across the miles? And can you take it with you when you go?

My Review about the Book: I love reading about the Amish and learning there way of life so when this book came up for review I jumped on it. In Hidden Anna turns to her Amish friend, Katie, to help her escape her abusive fiancé, who is well known and becoming more popular by the day. Anna tries to confide in her mom but her mom doesn't believe that Rob could be as bad as she makes him to be. When Anna arrives at Katie's house with bruises she quickly finds a haven. However, Katie's brother is a little hesitant to allow Anna to stay. Can Anna win him over? Will she lure him away from all he has known in the Amish community? Or will she leave him behind for good and go back to Rob and her English ways? She may be hidden from Rob in the English community, how long can she stay hidden and who will discover her true identity? Can she hid from God OR does this bring her closer to God? There are surprises with every turn of the page. If you like reading about Amish then I'm sure you'll like this book as well. This may have been Shelley's first book about Amish but I certainly hope it isn't her last. I am hooked I need to know what happens.
Well, here it is Saturday evening and I haven't blogged much this week. All I can say is I've been living and breathing paint. primer, white and blue paint. I do think I'll have a nice tan on my face and arms when I'm done painting. I still have basement windows to paint blue. I did get them primed on Thursday before the rain. Then we have to tackle the shed. We will paint it gray with the blue trim to match the house. It is going to have to keep its brown shingles for now. Hubby isn't up to changing them at the present. He's trying to get the deck and front steps done. Little by little we get things done. Oh, yes, hubby told me tonight I wasn't done painting white and I thought I was finished with that color. I have some trim in bathroom to do but first he has to buy it. He had to rip out the window trim to get the windows out. So I have another thing to add to my paint list again. Just when I thought I was coming to an end. He throws another monkey wrench. I think at Christmastime I will be dreaming of blue paint as I mentioned in an earlier post. Lord willing I'll just be dreaming and not still painting. If I'm still painting I may look like this smiley guy. Sorry I still haven't gotten pictures downloaded to post. I went to the library today but the computer that has the disc drive I need was being used. I just need to break down and buy a cable so I can do it here at home. Right now $25.00 isn't coming easy with all this work we are putting into the house.
Well, I really need to be moving on here and get doing something else. Just needed to check in as I haven't posted much this week because I've been living and breathing and dreaming of paint.

Well, the last two days I have felt like I see nufing.... actually I've had to keep my mouth and eyes closed. Oh, no I need my eyes open for this job that I've been given. However, I've been stuck in the bathroom to do the job. I've been scraping our two bathroom windows. I know they are the original windows in this house. Our house was built in the 1890's and I don't think the paint has ever been scraped off of these bathroom windows. There has to be at least 10 layers of paint on them. I have seen the top layer which has been cream the last 13+ years, but under that I have found white, a soft peachy cream, tan, hot pink and a blue aqua and who knows what other colors. The paint chips have been flying. I have worked on this all day yesterday and today. I'm hoping to get finished tomorrow. What a job it has been. I'm glad the other eight windows in this house wasn't this big of a job. I'd be sunk for sure if they had been. However, they did take one coat of primer and two coats of paint so that was a total of 24 coats of paint plus each 5 of them were older and have big pull out frames so it was a total of 50+ coats of paint I've applied so far in the past 10 days. YIKES! Then when I'm finished with that I have four basement windows and a shed to paint. I think I'm dreaming of blue..... paint. So why do I see nufing.... because I have to keep my eyes closed because of the paint chips flying. Well, so now you know what I've been up to the last two days. I've been held up in the bathroom. Well, I'm going to buzz on out of here. Just wanted to give you all a idea as to where I've been or haven't been. The siding and roof are completely done. Oh, the house looks so nice. I can't wait to get pictures and put them up for you all to see. I have to take a trip to the library to download them but first I need to take them . Hubby is working on the wood deck in the front and side of house. Some day I may give you all a sneak peak but we still have to pile of fence lumber in the yard. Been waiting for that to get gone before I take a picture but it just isn't moving on it's own for some reason. I've been wishing someone would get ambitious and steal some lumber but for some reason it's always there in the morning when I wake up. It would save me a lot of work. Things you don't mind if people steal they won't do it. But something that is unheard of it vanishes. Wondering what I'm talking about read my post from earlier in the month @ 2 Catch a Thief!
Really must be running take care and I'll post later. Thanks for visiting now.

Well, it's been a while since I've had a chance to do anything on here. We are just ssssoooo busy with our construction. Our crew should be completed with the roof and siding today. It's going to be sad to see them leave. As they have been here for four weeks now they have become like family. Boy is my computer running really slow. I don't know if I have all day to post some pictures or not. As slow as it's going it may take me all day. I need to get some windows washed today as hubby wants to put in all windows tomorrow and get that finished so we can open windows and let some outside air inside without birds coming in.
Work What's that?????
Caught red handed..... They didn't know I was around with the camera. The camera takes good pictures through windows. I was inside taking this through the picture window in the front. Then I went outside and they caught me so they posed.....
Peek-a-boo I see you! She thought the fence was hiding her. Beware God sees you wherever you go! Isn't she so cute?!
Oh, yes in one post I mentioned a project the girls and I were doing. We are up for hire if you need any demolition crews. Here's some pictures of our work.
This is what they were suppose to be doing....
Ahhhh! Yes, working...
taking down the fence in our front yard.
And the fence fell.....
This is all that's left.

Last summer my kids and I did several fun, messy outdoor projects that they just LOVED. These included the Diet Coke and Mentos experiment, decorating Home's Cool T-shirts using bleach and the sun and building a pizza box solar oven. This summer I want to do some other messy outdoor projects.
Well, Welcome to the crazy farm. This has been one crazy Tuesday in our construction. It is now 9:30 pm and I'm just now getting in here. I tried to post some construction pictures last night but it got to late. Thought I'd post them today but this is the first I've set down to take a break all day. And I'm dead beat so won't be on here long. Construction is going well and the crew should hopefully be finished with their part tomorrow. Then it is in our ball park for the rest. Thought they'd be done today but we ran into a bit of a snag and had to do some back track and getting others crews in here for some other unexpected work YIKES! Which is going to cost us about $1,000.00. argh! but it had to be done for safety reasons. I will post pictures as soon as I can I downloaded them to photobucket last night so I am one more step closer. I think I'm going to just get off of here and rest have to be up at 4:00 am to have dd at work by 5:15 so I'm about ready to call it a day. Really trust to post pictures in the morning if I can. The outside of the house is looking ever so nice. I can't wait to get finished pictures up for you all to see. Good night for now. Till next time May God Bless.

ABOUT THE BOOK
A Texas-Sized Tale of Unexpected Love
Essie Spreckelmeyer is the last woman anyone in Corsicana, Texas, expected to see with a man on her arm. Independent and outspoken, she’s known more for riding bicycles in outrageous bloomers than for catching a man’s eye.
And the last man who seems willing to give her a second glance is Tony Morgan, newly hired at Spreckelmeyer’s oil company. The disinherited son of an oil baron, Tony wants most to restore his name and regain his lost fortune--not lose his heart to this headstrong blonde. She confounds, contradicts, and confuses him. Sometimes he doesn’t know if she’s driving him toward the aisle or the end of his rope.

"Gist does it again! Her signature prose is consistent and she delivers a thoroughly delightful and entertaining story that’s worthy of our time and attention. Not only won’t you want to put this book down, you’ll want to enjoy this story again and again."
-- JUNE TOP PICK, 4-1/2 STARS, Romantic Times, Jennifer Reyes
"Gist has once again written a delightfully humorous historical romance. After reading the first book in this series of two, I was anxious to get my hands on this one. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed ... It is a spectacular, feel-good story which I highly recommend. You will definitely be glad you read it."
-– FIVE STAR RATING, The Romance Studio, Brenda Talley
Don't Compare~ It is when you compare that you despair. It is when you compare that you see all the bad & blemishes. So my advice: Don't do it.
Each family, mom, child, and situation is different and should be handled differently. It's only when we get our eyes off the target that we falter. Peter did when he walked on the water. For one brief moment he took his eyes off Jesus and looked around at his situation and was frightened about it and you know the rest of the story (if not read it in Matt. 14:22-33).
What one person is good at another person may not be. Why? Because that's the way God made it. We were created unique "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Ps. 139:14). We can't all be the eye, or the ear or whatever. We all work together to be one -- homeschool group. (I Cor. 12 - sure this scripture in I Cor. 12 is talking about in the church but it can apply to home, school, and organizations, etc.)
Everyone is different and learns differently. I have on daughter that loves being in the kitchen, sewing, crafts, etc.... Another daughter that could careless about learning to cook and stuff but she loves her music and is moving up the ladder in her job. She is 16 and a shift supervisor. And loves it! One is a very fast reader (speed reader almost) the other likes to read but is slow and steady. One loves history; One loves mysteries. One struggled getting the basic math facts the other picked it right up. So compare- They're different, But both must be loved and respected for who God made them to be.
So maybe they don't fold the towels the way I do, or put away the dishes or wash the dishes the same way as me, maybe they don't do things the way I do. It's been hard but I've had to learn to keep my mouth shut about how they do things differently than I. Just accept it and be glad they are putting in the effort and learning it. My way isn't the only way or the right way to do things which goes hand in hand with next point......
You can't do it all so let them do things their way to lighten your load a bit. It is very important to know the essentials be grounded in them and for a spice-of-life add some non-essentials. However, know the essential importance of saying, "No" when you need to. Everything don't have to be done by you.
Cherish those moments when everything is going well, and some one says, "You're doing a wonderful job." That's when you can smile to yourself and say "Thanks be to God". Let me tell you there aren't too many times you see the perfect picture of the REAL thing. When my girls were little I'd just keep telling myself at each changing stage "This too shall pass." Thank God that He has given you this moment. Cherish It!!

Dream house...or bad dream?
When the Kings move from L.A. to a secluded small town, fifteen-year-old Xander is beyond disappointed. He and his friends loved to create amateur films . . . but the tiny town of Pinedale is the last place a movie buff and future filmmaker wants to land.
But he, David, and Toria are captivated by the many rooms in the old Victorian fixer-upper they moved into--as well as the heavy woods surrounding the house.
They soon discover there's something odd about the house. Sounds come from the wrong directions. Prints of giant, bare feet appear in the dust. And when David tries to hide in the linen closet, he winds up in locker 119 at his new school.
Then the really weird stuff kicks in: they find a hidden hallway with portals leading off to far-off places--in long-ago times. Xander is starting to wonder if this kind of travel is a teen's dream come true . . . or his worst nightmare.
It's not just the house that's keeping secrets.
Pretending everything's all right is harder than it sounds. But the Kings know that even if they told the truth about the bizarre things happening in their house, no one would believe them. They're hyper-focused on rescuing their lost family member before anyone finds out what's going on.
But when a stranger shows up to take their house, their options start dwindling fast. Why would he be so interested in a run-down old place? And what secret is he hiding--just as he hides the scars that crisscross his body?
The mystery gets stranger with each passing day. Will the Kings be able to find a way to harness the house's secrets and discover who is watching their every move before another gets snatched into an unknown world?
The Dreamhouse Kings Series has three contests that you will not want to miss...Dream the Scene, a weekly "Thanks For Reading Trivia contest, and the Dreamhouse Kings Street Team contest. There are also free bookplates that you can request, and a chapter of each book that you can download!
Friday the 13th what better day than to post a mystery type book. So far I have only read book 1 but two will come.
Xander and David, lovingly referred to as Dae, find themselves in the middle of an adventure that they probably won't forget. The house their family decided to buy is a house of a different color. Or as the title implies: dark shadows. The linen closet leads to of all places.....school. And the secret passage they find leads to an attic with 20 rooms all of which have the same arrangement of a bench, a shelf, hooks and a locked door. But the theme of the items on the bench, self and hooks are different themes in each room. What did each of the items mean? Were the items more important than the rooms?
I don't know that I have ever read any thing written by Mr. Liparulo. I did however, find him very descriptive; Detail is his cup of tea. You can imagine just exactly what he describes. A blind person would love his books for the fine descriptions. This book is a juvenile fiction and I believe any kid would be taken up as the mystery unfolds with each turn of the page. I had a hard time putting the book down at times. I can't wait to start book two to see how things turn out. Only one draw back I have was a few times the author did use some slang words.
Go ahead take an adventure with two boys and their family, a house with many doors, rooms, and passageways, and an author with an imagination. Read the 1st chapter here and see if you aren't hooked.
Oh, this morning they came. Six of them to be exact; there have been only one or two. What a whirlwind they were! He warned me yesterday that today would be the day they tore off my kitchen roof. He said, "He'd have more guys with him so they could get it knocked out." Well, when they came they were a whirlwind of activity. They now have it exposed to any elements that might be. And big black clouds hang above my house, of course what would you expect. I pray they don't open up and let if fly because if they do we're in for a surprise. They then warned don't go into the kitchen just in case the ceiling would come down. Well, I'll be, awe shucks! no lunch! Burger King here we come! DD's day off work and she has to be subjected to work food on her day off! Well, I don't want to be in kitchen if the ceiling decides to come down so I seriously heeded their advice.
If I get to the library may have some more pictures posted some time again soon. Our construction is coming along real well. Oh, it is going to look ssssoooo nice! The roofer and siders goal is to be done with their part by Sat. (if weather permits; rain in forecast for rest of the week). Then we have the rest which may take us all summer to finish, little by little big things get done.

Favorite Bible verse: John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." It’s the “whosoever” part that gets me. That’s who I write for – “whosoever” and to me that means everyone and anyone.
Carlson, author of more than 100 books, begins her 86 Bloomberg Place series with I Heart Bloomberg that functions mostly to set up future storylines. Three women rent rooms at 86Bloomberg Place:
