The 35th Homesteading Carnival

As I set here at my desk and wonder how I'm going to pull all these colors together I have to scratch my head.  For one thing do you prefer using the word color or colour?  It really doesn't matter to me I just know that God is an awesome and wonderful God to allow so much color in our world.  Being I'm from the Northland (North Dakota) wintertime can be a bit dreary when you have white (snow) and black (dirty snow, mud or deadness) for months on end.  I'm the one for color.

I love Spring.  Flowers, butterflies, rainbows, It is all just beautiful and God can put on the colors even in the autumn time oh, the colors

I think back to when I was a kid and saw a rainbow for the first time wow.  Then as the years went on and I remember the day about 16 years ago when I saw for the first time the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)  OH, the show of colors there.  It was just splendid.  You just can't capture the beauty in a picture.  It is so amazing to watch it change before your eyes.  Then about five years ago when I saw the double rainbow and it was in the wide open sky of ND.  I thought I could see it come out of the ground on both sides of the road.  God is truly awesome!  And I love color so let's march on with our carnival this week and see what colors we can bring to life.

I thought I'd start out with my favorite color
Pink
Sheri @ SHADES OF PINK stepped up with an article on …:Entertaining on a Shoestring:…
My what entertainment kids can think up if we just let them. Check it out.

maa @ HOMESTEADGIRLS has shared some pictures of her cloth book she made. They are very beautiful! Take a look at the pictures. She even tells us where she bought the fabric book at.

While I was surfing I found a surprise of pink stop by Maureen's @ WELCOME TO MY FARM and see a picture of Sammyjo’s car. Now that’s pink!

Our next stop we'll take a look at the rainbow.  I love the song Somewhere over the rainbow

Red
Jennifer @ FROM FIELDS & GARDENS has given us a home recipe for Cherry cough medicine now that just may come in handy during this time of the year.

Brenda @ THECFARM…..OUR HOME has a red angel food cake recipe packed with flavor, strawberry of course, why one try it out looks yummy? I can smell it over my bean soup that’s cooking in my crockpot.  I love her valentine theme on her blog.  Nice and cheery over the snowflakes and white.

Orange
To add to orange in our rainbow of colors.   Leigh-Ann @ SIMPLY AT HOME has some pumpkin dounuts I just might have to try them.

How about making your own Peaches and Cream Bath Salt Rose @ GRANDMA ROSIE’S TEXAS HOME has shared her recipe with us. Stop by and check out this neat gift giving idea.

Yellow
How about a streek of yellow in the rainbow. Try visiting Sprittibee @ GATHERING MANNA She has a delicious medieval mac-n-cheese dish called Vermicelli with Parmesan  that sounds kind of yummy to my tummy!

Kristin @ FRONT PORCH  has this to say: Like many homesteaders, we try hard to provide good nutrition for our animals while avoiding many of the objectionable additives in modern feeds. These include antibiotics, industrial agriculture by-products, and genetically modified organisms. This can be nearly impossible, however, depending on where you live and your budget. Rather than drive ourselves crazy, we do the best we can. First, I started making what I call "Chick Cornbread" Check out my recipe and more info on feeding chickens!

Why not take a look at how Barbara @ FINDING CONTENTMENT has decorated her kitchen with Le Roosters and chicks theme   Oh, I love the curtains she found. Nice country theme. I love bargains too.

Green
Leslie @ JOURNEY TO SIMPLICITY has some Green Clean Tips  for everyone. An article about green cleaning, with some dandy recipes! The world is green why not visit her site.

For those of you with fireplaces or even the campers maybe you’d like to visit Suzy @ FARM LIFE FARM WIFE and find out how to make some Pine Cone fire starters I’ve never used pine cones before, but I have used rolled up newpapers or cardboard egg cartons with dryer lint and wax. However, I think a basket of these pine cone starters close to the fire place would make a nice decoration and come in handy when you need a fire starter.

 Blue
In a Blue mood, stop by and visit Anika @ FREEDOM there she shows pictures of her making a Blueberry Crisp

If you want to try your hand at a blueberry crisp hop on over and visit Rose @ GRANDMA ROSIE’S TEXAS HOME where she has a fruit crisp recipe for us just substitute blueberries for the fruit she suggests and you’ll be on your way to a crisp just like Anika made.

Violet
Since candles come in many colors and I needed something for violet I decided to put Laura @ LAURA WILLIAMS MUSINGS in this spot. She has a nice step by step craft on Candle making  Here is a great way to make new candles from stubs. Candles as well as oil lamps come in handy during power outages whether you live out in the country or not. What a neat idea!

For all you Crochet lovers why not try your hand at this adorable Cupcake Pin cushion I'm sure it would make up fine in violet yarn.  Cupcakes come in all shapes and sizes so why not all colors too. I think this is very adorable. Thanks for posting it Rose.

From what I've read RCA put out first color tv in 1954; However I wasn't born til 1964 and I remember when we got the first color TV in our house.  Yes, I did watch B & W tv growing up.

Black & White
Talk about a black spot in the day. Melanie @ JUBILEE FARM has provided us with just the right medicine for curing that black day with her funny little ditty  and you thought your day was going bad.

Need a good laugh on a black day try visiting with the Studious Scout  for awhile.  He may have some good advice if nothings else I’m sure he’ll lift your spirits. You may find him on LAKE LADY'S RETREAT where Laurie blogs.

For what many call a "Calgon Moment" Mrs. Rella @ HOW I LOVE THEE has some recipes for Coffee-lovers only but maybe they’ll work in tea or hot cocoa if you don’t care for coffee.

White
White means clean right? Well, I would hope so. Stop by and sit a spell with Cindy @ PRAIRIE MOUSE’S HOUSE for a devotional on a Clean Heart.

Marilyn @ URBAN HOMEMAKER has some nice warming recipes for chile with one being Colorado White Chili I may have to try this one sounds pretty yummy if you ask me.

I was looking for a snow cream recipe and never ran across one; however, Blessed mom of 10 @ NO PLACE LIKE HOME has a Molasses candy recipe that you make using snow. It is one just like Laura and Pa Ingalls would have made I’m sure of it.

Now everything isn't always Black and White as they seem. Sometimes things are in the shadow area and you just can't decide what color it is.

Gray
Maybe when you have some tough times you think things are gray. Mommy Homemaker @ WHERE THE CREEK MEETS THE LAKE   has asked the question: What happens when you have to fight for your joy because of tough times?..... Why not find out by reading what she has to say in her Staying Afloat in Tough Times  article. She has definitely shared her heart.

While you’re at it take the time to read about the fun day that Reece @ REECE’S VIEW OF THE WORLD had visiting the Dairy Goat Homestead Looks like a whole lot of fun was going on it you ask me, and some learning too (ssshhhh don't tell them) I wouldn’t call it a gray day at all, but don’t ask me I’m an adult.

Kids may think chores would fall into the gray area (no fun at all). Why not join Sisterlisa @ HOME SPUN LIFE and find out how she makes the Home, A Better Place…

Trains are gray in color. Well, at least the Amtrack is. Sister Lori @ BE YE SEPARATE has given some food for the thoughts concerning our Travels on Life’s Railway  This reminds me of a song I love to hear "Life's Railway to Heaven".

Brown
I found an article written by Gaelin @ EXPLORING GOD’S CREATION to be very interesting.  It's about Little Brown Bats and Echolocation Stop by and learn some things about bats from Gaelin. I love the eagle cursor that flies around on your screen too.

Woodworking 101 found on Robin’s site @ HEART AND HOME takes a look at a neat little wooden box put together by two little boys. My what a beautiful job they did, but not without some heartache. Learn about it while you read this article.

I trust that you have enjoyed our color adventure today.  I want to remind you that next week's carnival will be hosted by Kitty @ Kitty' Kountry Korner be sure to stop by her site and get your submissions in.  You may do so Here
