Monday, March 9, 2009 - 86th Homesteading Carnival ~ Thinking Spring Edition

Posted in HS Carnival
Before getting started on our carnival this week I'd like you to

here

We are always in need of host for the carnival.  We'd like to get some new hosts on our rotating schedule.  There is a date in April open and a date that I need the host to confirm with me still.  Please check this all who have posted to the carnival this week because one of you is the one I'm waiting to hear from.  If this date isn't  ok with you please let me know.  Once I get April filled up I can move into scheduling May carnivals.  You will also find links as to what exactly a carnival is and some guidelines.  It really isn't that hard.  It does bring traffic to your site.  Now let's get started on our carnival for this week.

It is evident that most everyone is Thinking Spring this week.  Cabin Fever has hit everyone.   Most of the posts are outdoor, Spring, garden theme.  So let's think Spring this week as we just had Spring Ahead weekend.

Spring brings the urge to get outside so lets head outdoors to start our carnival.

Thoughtfully Yours has some tips to share with us on Making and Creating a Garden space.  Maybe you could carve out a spot for your kids to have their own garden to tend.  What better way for them to learn and have fun doing so in their own garden.  I don't think you'd hear, "Mom, I'm bored"  all summer long if they had their own little plot.  IF you have more than one child you could have a contest on the most productive garden or the most attractive depending on what you want to plant.

Chris who blogs @ Smith Family Garden has an opportunity to get some Free Sunflower seeds for your garden! The Great Sunflower Project wants to determine areas where bee numbers are critically low. You can help and get free seeds in the process.

Natural Family Living Blog is home for Tiffany.  Who asks a question of us Are you in Danger of Becoming Free?  in her article that she has shared with us this week.  How about planting a garden for Freedom along with Tiffany this spring.

Are you raising chickens?  Well, here is the thing you need.  Try your hand at making your own homemade chicken feeder with this nifty  little  plan  that  has been  submitted by Carole who blogs from Fowl Visions.  Head over there and check out her plans.  If I were raising chickens I would have to say this may be a neat little investment.

For the Rainy season of Spring we may have to head indoors for a short while.  So here are some Thinking Spring ideas for inside.

How to Me gets us started with some ideas for us on getting your garden started inside.  She thinks, "If you've got a few minutes, you've just got to try this. The benefits are worth "reaping." :-)"  What a different start pot she uses.  We all have those in plenty.  Why not recycle.

Soil for the indoors hummm!  Now I've heard of everything.    Sandy @ Gardening on Cloud 9 has this to say about her Crystal Soil:  "Besides using crystal soil as a soil additive, we can also use it as a growing medium, making it simple and easy to add some colors and life in our house."  Learn more about this magical colorful soil in her article.

Let's get rid of critters that may have found their way into the house over the winter.  Stan @ Cottage & Yard has given us some advice to help get rid of those homestead critters on your counter top.  Very Interesting tidbit of homemade advice.  Check it out for yourself.

Maybe a party to celebrate Spring is in store.  Try my craft idea & treat.  Kids will have fun with this one as they deFrost (melt) Frosty.

Now if you really want to have a party you have to head over to Tracey's site:  Glue on her fingers.... she has the party links for you to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  Everything you want or need right there at the click of the button.  Oh, my is she full of links.

Rose @ Fine Craft Guild has offered us this piece of information:  "Need something to do with the kids this Spring break? Get started here. Lots of fun ideas for all kinds of craft projects, most of which are free, using recycled materials that you can find around the house. This article is about making simple but beautiful Paper Mache projects.  "

Maybe you'll get hungry while inside so let's head to the kitchen with these fine bloggers.

Why not get started with this yummy Rice Pudding that Stephanie @ Make it from Scratch has posted for us.

Rani @ Indoor Garden Musings  has this to say about her post.  "Need a quick ice cream cake recipe? Enjoy this one." Ice Cream Crunch oh, sounds yummy to me.  Can't wait to try this one.

For those that really want to try their hand at being an innkeeper.  Get the scoop from GP @  Manely  Montana   some good advice and also a delicious  recipe.  Oh the recipe looks yummy.

Let's head over to Danielle's Teaching, Learning and Encouraging site where she is going to give us some tips in Meal Planning.  I guess if your going to be an innkeeper you'll have to do some cooking and Danielle has the plans to help us out.

How about some cheap meals that you can cook at homeThe Smart Wallet has some money and consumer tips and news for you.  Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner they have you covered.  Sounds good to me.

Thanks for reading the carnival this week.  I trust you found it helpful and fun.   Be sure to visit  Jennifer @ Quiverfull Family next week for the carnival.  Get your post submitted.  You may do so with this easy submission form here.
