We will soon be getting chickens and I have started doing research and listening to what others have to say about the whole chicken process and I would love to see what everyone else thinks.  I know that Rhode Island Reds are a good breed to have but can anyone tell me of others that would do well in Western North Carolina?  I think that it will be a good experience for my girls.  I know that they love my sisters chickens and even she told me that chickens are not that much trouble.  Well I hope to hear from you soon and remember to take time to smell the roses!!

Hi Tracy, I love, love, love, Buff Orphingtons! They are the best breed I have ever had. Rhode Island Reds to me are just too flighty and the Buffs are just so laid back -the kids can even have them as a pet. What is also great about them is that they are great winter layers and also meaty for eating as well! Hope this helps.
