Little tidbits of my life | ||||
My Love...
I seen this over at http://onechristianmom.blogspot.com/ & thought that I would join in.
1. Who is your love? My husband, Mike 2. How long have you been together? Whew! 15 1/2 years! 3. How long did you two date? Are you ready for this? 4 months to the day we got married! 6. Who said “I love you” first? Umm? Probably him. 8. Who sings better? Hmm...We sing all the time, but not together other than at church. 9. Who is smarter? He is. 10. Whose temper is worse? We are both pretty hot-headed. 11. Who does the laundry? I do mine & his. The girls do their own. 12. Who takes out the garbage? The kids! 13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? That would be me! 14. Who pays the bills? I write out & mail all the bills. But then again he's the only one employed so you decide. 15. Who is better with the computer? He works with a computer every day for work but I also love the computer so it's a toss up. 16. Who mows the lawn? He does. That's his secret obsession! 17. Who cooks dinner? I usually do but if I am sick or something he can cook pretty well. 18. Who drives when you are together? He does. He makes me nervous when I have to drive. 19. Who pays when you go out? Again, he is the only one making any money so I guess he does. 20. Who is most stubborn? Ooh, that's a good one. I would probably say me. 21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? Neither of us. 22. Whose parents do you see the most? Probably mine. 23. Who kissed who first? I think it was a mutual thing. I don't really remember. Is that bad? 24. Who asked who out? I guess he did. We went to a hockey game with his brother & my sister. 25. Who proposed? I do remember that one. He did! 26. Who is more sensitive? Neither of us. 27. Who has more friends? We have the same friends. Just people we go to church with. No individual friends really. 29. Who wears the pants in the family? LOL! I plead the 5th on that one! I'll answer this way...He wears pants & I wear skirts! LOL!! 30. How did you meet? Oh boy! Here we go! My older sister was married to his younger brother & we met at their reception. Does that sound like a hillbilly song or what? LOL!! He was 21 & I was only 16. We started dating about 6 months after that...when I was old enough for him. Yeah! 17!(?) LOL! And we've been together ever since! How romantic-like! Okay there's our story, in a nutshell. Now let's hear yours!
Staples Teacher Appreciation Days!!OK...I'm going to see if I can get this to work 'cause the link is LONG! Staples is having their annual Teacher Appreciation Days. I take advantage of this every year. In case you don't know, homeschoolers CAN get a Staples Teacher Rewards card/key ring tag!! Be sure to let the clerk swipe it at every visit. Here is the link that you can go to and find out the date of your local Staples' Teacher Appreciation Day. Hope this works... Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<>< Peaches are RIPE!We have the best peaches on our trees. SO sweet and juicy. Funny I never really like peaches that much because they seem watery and just not that wonderful. BUT peaches off our own trees are sweet and flavorful and awsome!!! There are only a few ripe ones yet, but we are loving it.
I am picking and pickling cucumbers as they come. I usually buy a whole lot of pickling cukes from a gal who grows rows and rows. BUt I actually had success with my cucumber patch this year. I planted and replanted because of the earwigs and I ended up with lots of plants despite my worrying... So I am pickling. And I think I like mine better only because I can pick them smaller or larger depending on what I am after. I don't use vinegar at all, I only use lemon juice. People really like them and my kids friends always ask for them. The garlic cloves disappear first!
Dill Pickles 2 1/2 c. lemon juice 1 1/2 quarts water 1/3 c. course pickling salt Bring to a boil. Pack jars with grape leaves and dill and garlic cloves, cucumbers and top with more dill and garlic cloves. Pour brine into jar leaving 1/2 inch space. Cover with hot lids. Boil in hot water bath 5 minutes. Let the jars sit for a month or so before using to blend flavors. Just a tip if you have to buy your cukes: It takes 1 lb of cucumbers to make a quart jar of pickles. I will get those other recipes up when I get a chance....
Stapes Teacher Appreciation DayYesterday I went to Staples to take advantage of their 3 day sale that ended yesterday. I bought 25 packages of eraser tops for $1.50! I found out that Staples is having Teacher Appreciation Day soon for all teachers--including homeschooling moms! Go here to see when your Staples event is scheduled. At the event, you'll get a beautiful tote bag filled to the brim with all sorts of goodies. There are also doorprizes and coupons! Amish French ToastHere is a family favorite I thought I would share w/you. Our family has had the pleasure of going to Holmes County, Ohio ~ the largest Amish settlement in the world ~ a few times. Once my dh and I enjoyed the most wonderful long weekend at an Bed & Breakfast there. The husband had grown up Amish but left them to marry. Their B&B was built by his Amish family members and looks just like an incredible Amish home. The difference being that the whole 1st floor is made up of lovely, themed guest rooms (we stayed in Grandpa's Room) w/a good 1/3 of the 1st floor being a HUGE country kitchen and a wonderful country gathering room w/several tables and chairs (for those incredible breakfasts and freshly made pie in the evening!) and a relaxing living-area w/a fireplace, piano and comfy couch and chairs. There is also a wrap-around porch. The family that funs the B&B has the entire upstairs as their own "house." That, of course, is a private area. Anyway...one of our incredible breakfasts while there was Amish French Toast! I have made this from-time-to-time ever since! If you try this, you will be in food heaven! Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<>< Amish French Toast eggs milk butter bread syrup powdered sugar ~Mix w/fork 2 eggs and enough milk to cover (this you will do as necessary for each slice of bread) ~Melt butter into med/hot skillet (do this for each serving. IF you MUST use margarine, use one that is non-hydrogenated like Earth Balance – I have to do this for one of my girls) ~Crack egg into skillet ~IMMEDIATELY soak a slice of bread in the egg/milk mixture and lay on top of the egg in the skillet; fry for about a minute or so until bottom egg is cooked through. ~Flip egg and bread – together – and let bread toast on other side. ~You MAY need to flip over on each side again until egg is fried to your satisfaction. ~Move egg/toast to a plate and top w/syrup and powdered sugar. ~ENJOY!!!!!!!!! My Birthday Project....I spent all day painting yesterday! I didn't realize painting a red wall would take soooooo long and so many coats of paint. It turned out nice and I hope that Vanessa is surprised and happy with it. It's a huge change from the pale blue paint and white bedding to the darker richer colors. The light tan color is showing more yellow in the pictures than it really is. Found the bedspread set at the Goodwill and she was given nice new sheets and a throw pillow. I just need to get a few things for the walls and a little curtain. It's out with the little girls stuff and in with the "grown up stuff".
Wagging
Posted by The Good Life
It sure feels like winter here in New Zealand - lots & lots of rain - day in. day out. One would think our dams were over flowing with the amount of rain. Oh & thunder & lightening storms too!12:45 PM, Thursday, July 24, 2008 .. Posted in Daily Life .. 2 comments .. Link Yesterday the kids & I wagged school - well kind of! The kids did the cattery for me in the morning while I printed out pedigrees - new owners had rang to see if they could come a day early - not a problem! Abbey & I worked on her CV - drove her to collect her reference from babysitter & then dropped it in. She did thank me for making her do all the international exams he he - she had quite a nice little CV with all the results. She loves I am her taxi - I love that I am seeing her blossom - teen years are really fun watching them grow & change - bit like a flower opening. We then drove in the wind & rain to the big shopping centre south. I think other families decided to wag too as the mall was full! We priced new cell phones as poor James had lost his in the paddock in the weekend - we have looked & looked for it. - We bargained hard & got $40.00 off. He didn't like the big lump come out of his bank account - and commented he would hate to be in debt! Yes, yes, yes moment all the hard work of teaching the kids how to run a cashbook with their pocket money working. Brent helped him make a chain & his new phone can now be firmly held to his belt. I got a USB stick (A pretty pink one) as one of my friends keeps hassling me - Have you backed up??? Each time she sees/speaks to me I do love her for it as I know I am shocking for backing up!!! - must do it today!. Oh and I also brought more flies for our families frogs - cracks me up buying flies! We also stopped at a warehouse good specials of tomato sauce & rice by 25kg packs. James spotted some Batman juice so we brought bottles of that to smuggle into the movies - along with homemade popcorn & Bat lollies for the kids. Yep it is soo much cheaper to take your own snacks to the movies by a long way! We were an hour early for orthadontist (sp) so stopped at Macdonalds for a treat. it was really, really nice - the train has now gone - bit sad!! It now has a Macafe - we were most impressed and we sat watching cars drive by while we enjoyed each others company & our treat. Mcdonalds is a treat for us - we watch our pennies by choice - we live like no one else now, so we can live like no one else in our later years too. W we were talking how we are all greatful I don't have to work. The kids said they would much rather me be home than working. I often think of NZ today so many mums working - kids in day care - the government funds daycare. Oh no Brent was home early, we had only just walked in the door at 5pm - no tea on, no fire lit, no animals fed. All hands on deck and home was soon buzzing. The kids got out their school work & worked on it while I cooked tea - macaroni cheese & James had baked beans, stewed apples for pudding. Ab made phone calls to her friends & they are all happy to come in fancy dress & costume for her party - they are now planning a mass trip to second hand shops. She rang my folks & they are helping her out with 1920 style theme. Should be a fun party! - Brent is NOT into dressing up - he is a kiwi bloke! - his daughter is trying to talk him into dressing up as a butler. It was a good choice to wag routine of home school & go out - we are recharged & very thankful for our lifestyle. Her Name is .... ShilohShe is 6 days old and today they settled on a name. Her name is Shiloh. The meaning is beautiful. They got the name out of the book Desire of Ages where it talks about baby Jesus and how he had many names.... Shiloh the peace giver, the Root and offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star, the Desire of All Nations, the I AM.... Her parents named her as a reminder of the promise of the coming of that ONE who is coming to take us home with HIM.
This long distance Auntie stuff is for the birds! I wish I could hold her and see her in person. Much as I appreciate email, it's just not the same... we WATCH for those updates, let me tell you! Daily Devotion 206

True Humility
And be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5b
Humility may be described as a righteous estimate of ourselves as God sees us. It is not a cast-down, self-despising spirit, but a simple feeling of unworthiness, a sense of our own insignificance. Never does it leave room for pride and self exaltation.
A drunkard came home at midnight with a crowd of his drunken friends. He demanded that his Christian wife make supper for them. She promptly complied. After they were done eating, one, who was more sober than the rest, and knowing of her disapproval of their conduct, asked how she could respond so kindly to their unreasonable request. She said that if her husband had died in this miserable condition, he would be miserable forever. It was through this woman’s act of humility to these unreasonable and corrupt men that her husband was saved.
Jesus in His humility stripped Himself of His rightful dignity when He gave Himself up as a servant and became a man. This was not the end of His humiliation; He stooped still lower, in obedience. He went to the shameful cross where He suffered much abuse by His own people. Because of His humiliation, God was so well pleased that He gave Him a position, “That at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow.”
We may say it was only right for Jesus to give himself like this, but what should our attitude be to humility? “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” Philippians 2:5). Unless we are converted, we cannot experience true humility. Humility brings with it a childlike spirit that manifests itself in meekness, submission, and lowliness in heart (Matthew 11:29).
As we make our pilgrimage here, may we also be clothed with humility and take opportunities to serve others for the kingdom of God’s sake.
Lester Stoltzfus, Honey Brook, PA
God hath promised to lift on high, he who sinks himself by true humility.
