Not just moving, but
how about running an orphanage . . . ?! The latest thing rumbling around in my head is this: Move to Africa, purchase property with or without a home and set up and run a baby home, ages newborn to three. Plan on staying 3-5 years . . . Starfish Daddy just smiles at me and says he's "not there yet", but he's not really opposed, either - just concerned about finances. We would basically sell all that we have, put just a few things in storage, or have them stored for us, and follow God to Africa . . . Of course, we wouldn't even consider it if we didn't have three daughters legally ours and "stuck" there. But - if we have to live there for two years, why not make it long enough to really get a good orphanage project off the ground? This current idea has only been rattling around in my brain since Saturday and I already have more than a dozen people interested in helping, including one (major) corporate sponsor . . . wowee! I'll probably be headed over in March to visit the girls and lay some (more) groundwork . . . .talk about "homesteading"!

Wow, when you dream you dream big don't you??? Good luck on whatever you decide to do. What a blessing an orphanage would be though. I have friends who started one in Haiti and they have 10 (all boys) little ones in their care.
God's Blessings,

I think I would have a hard time running an orphanage - I would grow too attached to all the littles in my care and be soo sad when they were left with me (the things people do to create orphans) and sad again when they left for a forever home.
I have to agree with gabbie - you do dream big.....

but if God has planted it in your heart, the HE has a reason. My dh and I (he is a national of Taiwan and I am American) are trying to start a group home/adoption service here in our area. It's difficult cause there are lots of rules and regulations and Taiwan isn't a 3rd world country so things are expensive. No one takes you seriously it seems if you don't have money to back you up. But we are in foster care, mainly working with teens, and have plans. Need to find out how to get those corporate sponsors you talked about.......it is hard working getting it up and going!!
I love your blog by the way!!

If we did not do what we are doing now, my dh and I would have done this. Sounds like an awesome dream to me..

If anyone can manage to pull this off, you can. I'm excited at the prospect and would love to help in any way I can.

About Me
Welcome to our family blog! We appreciate you stopping in and reading about our family. Life is a journey in more ways than one.... this blog shares our joys and challenges with "homesteading" on just one acre in suburbia, raising a LARGE family, cooking, canning, gardening, adoption, waiting for the time to be right to move to the country (and preparing for that time), and finally, other musings of this mama's heart.
