Our House

02:55, Sunday, November 12, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

Our house is one of the oldest in our small town...

We are in a quiet area opposite the river but only

10 mins walk into town....

Our house is one of the oldest in our town...

Because our town is a company town:

It is quite unique in that it was built by the aire & calder company.

Hence the Inns were built early on for the public to stay when

going by steamer.....

Because our house was originally part of an Inn it is approx 1820.

Wehave had so much work to do and seem never finished...

As when we purchased it had been rented and the basement

had not been lived in since Victorian times.....

In times of trouble

Andrew Murray:

In times of trouble say,

First, he brought me here.  It is by his will I

am in this place,

in that I will rest.

Next, he will keep me in his love and give

me grace in this trial to behave as his child.

Then, he will make the trial a blessing,

tecahing me the lessons he means me to learn,

and working in me the grace he intends for me.

Last, in his good time, he can bring me out again,

how and when only he knows.

Say, I am here:

By Gods appointment,

In Gods keeping,

Under his training,

For his time...

AMEN

Yorkshire Parkin Guy Fawkes

10:49, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

Yorkshire Parkin.

This was traditonaly eaten on Nov 5th Guy Fawkes day.

The significance of this not sure. A similar cake is however

made in Lancashire by the name of Harcake or 'soul mass

cake' This too is Nov on All Souls day Nov2nd.

Har is the norse name for Odin so there is possibly

a pagan origin

As a child I well remember Nov 5th.

We had toffee apples

treacle toffee

I had parkin as my mother was from the north

The southerners didn't tend to have the parkin.

We would go to each others houses light the bonfire

which usualy had a stuffed Guy of top.

Also have a firework display. This was before the PC

times....

I well remember young children going about with a stuffed

Guy a few weeks before Nov 5th to collect pennies for

the fireworks.  Our children today would turn their little

noses up @ pennies now lol.

Guy Fawkes was  Roman Catholic and he attempted to Blow

up the Houses of Parliament. It was known as the gunpowder plot.

Although we still celebrate this day.  Most now go to

organised events and tend to have a barbecue.

Halloween from across the pond has however taken over.

We didn't really celebrate Halloween till about 20 yrs ago!

Yorkshire Pudding

09:53, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

Had better add this!!!!

This is a strange thing! Seems it is only succesful

if one is in a good mood!

The pudding is usauly made with milk & water to

 obtain a lite crispness.

In some districts is thought best to only use

skimmed milk.  When This is so the batter

is not allowed to stand any length of time!

For a crisp pudding is essential that there

be no fat in the mixture.

In years gone by the milk was that after the

cream had been skimmed off!

The other essentials are very hot oil not

too much of it. And a good hot oven!

Traditonaly it was always eaten as a starter

with thick gravy plain or onion.

It is now more usual to serve as accompaniment

roast beef!

The old method of cooking was to place the

pudding in the roasting tin underneath the joint

which was roasted on a spit! The juices from

the meat would then drip down on the cooking

pudding.

1 egg

4 oz plain flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 pint milk &1/4 pint water.

Break the egg into the flour & salt previously

mixed in basin.  Add enough liquid to make

beating consistency.  Beat well & leave to

stand for 1/2 hour.

Heat oven to 450 F. (electric)

Place the tray in the oven till is smoking hot!

In the meantime add the rest of the liquid to

the batter. Take the tray from the oven and

use a long handled spoon put two tablespoons

into each tin.  Bake for 15/20mins...

Recepie2

Beastings- the first milk of a newly calved cow!

Usually available 3-6 days after calving...

5 tablespoons plain flour

1/2 pint beastings

1/2 pint milk

little water.

Mix beastings & milk together & add flour.

Do not add any salt Add a little water & beat

to a fairly fine consistency.  Pour into

oiled baking tin & bake at top of oven 475F

till brown.

A well made pudding should be well risen

till it almost hits the oven top! So must be served

straightway while still risen!

My mother always left batter till air bubbles

formed on top!

However I well remember on a trip to the  .us.

having popovers which seemed very similar to me?

I don't think they were done in such a hot oven.....

It is no good using electric mixer best to beat with

fork or hand whisk or beater....

Also as a child we always had the left over cold

with jam or jelly for tea?

Nowadays not much leftover....

Marvelous with homemade horse raddish sauce!

Apparently is good for the sinus so they tell me!

You can make invid small ones as popovers if wanted!

A Song to the Lord

08:14, Monday, September 25, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

Even though we are rejected

Even though we are despised

Yet shall I love the Lord

Yaweh is my strength Yaweh is my hope

In all things I shall seek your comfort and your hope.

For you are beautiful as a Rose in Zion.

For our comforter shall make a way for us

His paths shall be paths of righteousness

And his ways shall be ways of Peace

Round about shall be the shadow of his wings

Even the small feathers shall rejoice

Justice mercy and truth shall follow me

For I would dwell even in his shadow

The Lord shall light my way

Around the temple we shall dance

Around the temple we shall sing

Those also of dark countence shall join in the celebration

of your people.

From the East to the West the sound of the tambourine

and cymbal shall be heard with joyous steps and freedom of dance......

Israel For your people

02:26, Monday, September 25, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

Given 10th August 2005

For surely you are resplendent in all your Glory...

I would sing a song unto the Lord

I would declare his righteousness

I would Dance before the King.

The wind of thy spirit sweeps through

the tabernacle Oh God.

I would whisper your secrets but declare your mighty deeds

For the noise of thy cymbals is loud and the Rythmn of

your tambourines a great song...

In due time I will become your father and You my people

Shout joy you Lands

Dance, shake your cymbals, beat your tambourines.

For the child is dancing also, in your  courts and your

temple resounds with praise....

Even in the desert places there will be joy...

In your courts and dancing before you.

Sometimes our intercessions will start in prayer...

Sometimes it can be part prophetic...

At the moment a time of joy...

All of Feb and March filled with sadness and weeping....

all day and all night they will never keep silent.

You who remind the LORD, take no rest for yourselves;

and give Him no rest until he establishes

and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth"

Zechariah 4:10

For who hath despised the day of small things......

For some weeks now I have been thinking of this passage...

Everything starts so often with the smallest of things.

Sometimes we are tempted to look at others and their ministries.

We want something to happen now.

Sometimes we can be looking in the wrong place

when it is under our noses.

Sometimes we are looking for the right thing at the wrong time

Sometimes we are looking for something large

and it can be something(to us) quite small.

We can think a challenge is either too big or too small.

As long as we claim or control it, the vision will always be limited..

Think about it?

But the moment we make whatever we have large or small available to

the master he will do whatever he needs to do with it!

Not our needs but his. Often we expect something when our master is

working his vision through and around us

Often his plan includes waiting.  God is in a way working backwards.

Working backwards you say?  Well he sees the end as well as the beginning.

His ways are not our ways

Often the disciples were on what appeared to them a well known path.

Jesus would sometimes frustratingly say 'Let's go over to the other side '

Mark 4;35

But Lord we know the way, we've often been this way! It's a recognised route!

Have we enough provision to go the other way?

They were with the master had they forgotten already?

But you see on the changed route in obedience to him we can often learn

much more about ourselves and others on the way!

If things seem not to be going in a direct route don't assume or think

you're necessarily on the wrong route! Not in Gods plan anyway

Your'e often just where he wants you in all your weakness and courage.

Dear Lord I pray for myself and others that I will recieve with thankfulness

that which comes upon me.  Knowing that all things are filtered through

Gods love and compassion towards us....

Mighty Saviour

For I Know a mighty saviour

Jesus Christ the Lord

For he listens to our heart cries

and understands them all...

Oh he is a mighty saviour

he means the world to me

his tears his tears are our tears..

He longs to set us free

he understands our moments

be they for shadow or shine

He longs to bring his children closer...

Dear one, can you make him thine?
