In my garden...

Posted on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 07:27

Well, Praise God, my garden is doing great.  I put up another 4 1/2 quarts of peas last night and that was just what we could get shelled.  I have 4 cantaloupes sitting on the counter.  Not to mention all of the tomatoes, cucumber, squash, eggplant, and peppers you could ever need.  I am so very thankful.  I just need a few more hours in my day to get it all put up.  I usually like to do strawberry fig preserves about this time but I am afraid it may not happen this year.  I have so much from the garden to get put up.  This is a great problem to have!!!

Blessings,

Trixi

How does your garden grow?....garden pictures.....

Posted on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 01:18

If you have been following this blog at all then you know that I love the garden and I love preserving God's bounty.  That being said, this year we were a little concerned because we have gotten little to no rain.  As a result of no rain, the garden did not just take off like usual.  Well, we have had a couple of good showers and I have stayed on top of the watering.  It's looking pretty good right now.

In this view you can see watermelon, cantaloupe, and honey dew vines.  You can see the tomatoe plants, squash, peas, and off in the distance is the row of sunflowers.

Here are more tomato plants and cucumber vines.  We got 11 cucumbers this morning.  Thank you Jesus.

Here are the beloved squash and zucchini.  We have squash literally running out our ears.  Oh, what a good problem to have.

Here are the sunflowers.  Alot, of these came up from the seed that fell last year.  They are superb.  We have had to weed them out because they were so thick that they were blocking the sunlight.  My middle Dd wants them planted every year and we are obliging.  She is right it makes the whole garden just look better.

I wanted to show a picture of my 9 rows of peas but it wouldn't load.  I will be busy, busy putting all of this up the next few weeks.  Praise the Lord.

Blessings,

Trixi

The joys of preserving summer's harvest....

Posted on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 05:38

I can not even begin to tell you how much I love this time of year.  I am an avid preserver of the harvest.  Today, I have been working on red plum jelly....  The smell is heavenly in my house.  I have been cooking down red plums for jelly all day.

These are some of my beautiful jars.  So far I have 10 pints of jelly made.  I have enough juice made up for about 10 more jars.  If we have nothing else this summer, we will have plenty of jelly to put on biscuits.  I also picked 4 squash out of the garden today and hope to pick that many more tomorrow.  We also hope to go and pick blueberries Friday.  The harvest is turning out very well so far.

Blessings,

Trixi

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
