I thought this might be a great opportunity to share the following clip.
It is a clip of a guy/missionary speaking to a youth conference in Montgomery, Al. I will tell you that it is LONG. However, my family watched it last night and it is so powerful you don't even realize that it is that long. I hope you watch it and enjoy it.

Student of the Word Curriculum...... Teaching the Word of God as a curriculum...
Posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 08:00
In light of my post yesterday on the Church of Oprah, Dh and I have decided to take a closer look at what we are teaching in our homeschool and why. We have been very academic the last 6 years of homeschooling. I have worried over what Math programs to use and this year the big worry has been what Chemistry program to use. I have never really pondered on what Bible curriculum to use. Don't get me wrong, we feel strongly about living, really living our Christian walk. We read the Word of God and we meditate and memorize. These things are important to us. However, sometimes they can be lax and put on the back burner for a spelling test or writing assignment. I believe that that mentality needs an adjustment. I believe that my children need to be more prepared for a life of warfare with Satan and His spirits here on earth. 1 John 3:24-4:6
We are looking at using a curriculum called Student of the Word next year. It looks to be very Bible intensive. Has anyone used it and what are your thoughts?
I saw this quote on another blog and decided to add it to my sidebar. It is so fitting as a reminder of what we should yearn for.
“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
Have a great day and blessings to all,
Trixi

I just love this man....
Posted on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 03:13
Then the Lord said to me, "Go again, love a woman who is loved by her husband.... Hosea 3:1 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, Eph. 5:25
I don't often brag on this man but I want to for just a moment. He is the best most godly man I have ever known. With that said, I did not sleep well lastnight. I think it was because I had a Diet Coke about 4:30 yesterday. We have given up caffeine and I think it kept me up. Anyway, usually I get up and fix DH's breakfast and lunch every morning. Well, he knew I did not sleep well and left me in bed. He is so good to me. I wish he had gotten me up, because then I always feel bad that I did not serve him properly. Ofcourse, then he did not have lunch to take so I went up to the office to go take him out to lunch. Well, he was the only one there and they have an inmate who comes to clean up. He could not leave the inmate alone at the Armory. So I decided to go get us lunch and take it back. Well, the inmate needed lunch also. A lot of times he will pay for whatever someone will get him. Anyway, Dh said just pick him up something, because God calls us to give. Now keep in mind it is a treat for us to eat out much less buy someone else's. I thought it was such a kind thing to do. Granted it was only an extra $6.50 but that is alot to me.
This is a man who has been in prison for 10 years and he has been cleaning DH's armory for about a year. During this time, Dh has really tried to be a witness. I just pray that it has worked. He told me today that he is not going back when he gets out in 4 months. I pray he doesn't. He has a 13 yr. old boy and a 16 yr. old boy. They have never had a father and I am sure need one. I pray that these next 4 months will be a time that God can use DH to be a great witness for Jesus to this man.
As for DH, I don't show it enough or say it enough but I am eternally greatful that God gave this man to me.
Blessings,
Trixi

Depending on the government to bail us out.....
Posted on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 07:13
I get up early in order to fix DH's breakfast and his lunch for the day. He usually gets up 45 mins. before me to do his Bible reading for the day. While he is eating his breakfast, we usually watch the morning news. The kids are all still snug in their beds. This morning their was a news headline, The government is going to bail out our economy. Now, don't get me wrong, I would love to go to the mailbox and get a check. I doubt it will happen, as I am sure they will be given to those who do not pay taxes. However, is that really our governments job. We have a weak economy because it is based on the fallacy of credit. It does not take a brain surgeon to see that if you base an economy on people spending with credit, it is eventually going to fall. Regardless, why is it that everytime something goes wrong we are expecting the government to bail us out. Take Hurricane Katrina for example. People are still screaming for the government to rebuild their homes. Why is that the governments job and do we really want to give that kind of control to the government?
My husband had an interesting analogy. He said it is just like when the Hebrews were brought out of Egypt. They had depended on Pharoah for their very existence for so long that every time they didn't have food or water. They grumbled and complained to Moses (Exodus). Instead of doing something about their situation they complained and wanted to go back to slavery. Hence, the reason why they were in the wilderness for 40 years, to get rid of this worthless generation. Can you imagine what God must think of our dependency on the goverment to supply our needs and not Him? Better yet, I wonder what our punishment will be, to get rid of a crooked and perverse generation. Phil. 2:15 It's a sobering thought.
It's also a good reason to raise up a generation who does not depend on the government for self sufficiency!!
Blessings,

A Soft Answer turns away wrath....
Posted on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 01:35
A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Prov. 15:1
This is one of our memory verses this week and it is a verse that we are also working hard to apply. I have let some issues go not only with the children but with myself in this area. We are becoming quick tempered around here and are needing to be refined. I sat everyone down at the table Tues. morning and we did a good little study on this very verse and others.
Do all things without grumbling or questioning (complaining), that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Philippians 2:14-15
This verse has a promise for us, that if we do all things without complaining or questioning we will be lights in the world for Jesus. What a great opportunity!! We all need a little reminder in this area!! I want to raise children who are great lights for Jesus!!
I want to say, I have great kids. Children who love and serve the Lord but we all fall and have to have a reminder of what God desires for us.
Blessings,
Trixi
