If you think to say a prayer......

Posted on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 09:56

We have finally found a house that we are willing to make an offer on.  It is none of the ones I have talked about before.  We went to see it on Friday.  My kids immediately fell in love.  It's 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths.  It has 2 bedrooms and a bath upstairs and the master bed and bath downstairs.  It's only 4 years old and has a great huge kitchen.  The whole downstairs is ceramic tile except the master bedroom.  It is a great house.

Now for the cons, it sits right on a busy highway.  It is much newer and modern than what I was wanting and it doesn't have as much land as we wanted.  It does have enough land just not as much as we have seen.  Now for the big one, they are asking $35,000.00 more than we can do.  However, it has been on the market for , we think, atleast, 2 years.  The realtor took us to it and said to just make an offer they really need to sell it.  So today at 6:30 we are going to make an offer of $35,000.00 less than their asking price.  We can only go up $5,000.00 more.  It is a ridiculous thought that they might take it but we are thinking in this market, you never know.  They have not lived in it in atleast a year.  They were transferred we think to Pennsylvania.  So maybe they will just want out of it.  We have heard that other people have offered them more than our offer and they declined.  All we can do is offer and pray.  God knows just what we need.  We are not stuck on this house.  If they do take it we will definitely know that God's hand was in it because it was way out of our range!!!

I am writing all of this to say that if you think of us today please pray.  This house hunting thing is wearing to us and we are just ready for it to be over.LOL

Blessings,

Trixi

What's in a name.....

Posted on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 03:09

For the last 2 years my blog has worn the name homestead in the making.  Although, I do not think we know all there is to know about homesteading, I do think we are well on our way.  I have decided to go for a new name along with my new look.  I chose striving for simplicity.  The reason why is that in my life right now I am really pondering not being of this world.  Romans 12:2  I a really searching how God would have us to live in this world but not of it.  I want to throw off life's encumbrances Hebrews 12:1.  Thus the name Striving for Simpliciy.  How do I live in this world but yet strive to live a simple life?  That is the question I am trying to explore.

Blessings,

Trixi

Changing the look around here.....

Posted on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 09:02

I have decided to change the look around here.  I love all of the fluff and pretty that I had on my blog but, as I am really reflecting, I have decided I need simplicity.  Not only in my life but in my blog, as well.  Here is what I have come up with so far.  I will do some more tweaking, not with graphics but moving things in and out.  What do you think?

Blessings,

Trixi

Meeting at the mall and such......

Posted on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 03:26

Well, yesterday was the day of the big game for DH and DS.  We went back and forth on whether or not we were going with them to Memphis, up until Friday night and I finally said, "Ok make a decision."  My oldest DD really wanted to go to the mall but, a lot like her mom, didn't want to drive to it and spend allllll day longggg away from home.  Nevertheless, we went.  We dropped DH and son off at the Liberty Bowl Stadium and drove to the WolfChase Galleria Mall.  I have to tell you we live in small townville.  We only have a Walmart, Pizza Hut, McDonald's and a Wendy's.  That's it!  And on top of that we live about 11 miles outside of town.  If you could call it town.  Now, don't get me wrong we love rural, but for effect I need to preface our situation.  This mall that Pat in Tn. told us about is bigger than our whole town.  It was huge.  We would need a whole day to look at everything and then I would want to go across the street to Barnes and Nobles and everything else.  It was amazing.  Keep in mind I don't know that I have ever been to a Mall this size and I don't even know when the last time I have been to one at all.LOL  We do occasionally go into Jackson and do the Target and little strip malls but nothing like this was.  However, I really appreciate my nice quiet rural life.  Like LeighAnn, I was so amazed at how loud it was.  There was also every walk of life there as far as people go.  Oldest Dd said you could probably really tell we don't get out much.LOL  As we were constantly saying, Oh my, look at that.  However, one of the up sides to the trip was we got to meet LeighAnn and her family.  We really enjoyed spending time with her and her girls.  We would like to do it again, just maybe somewhere a little less distracting.LOL  We had a good time though.  The girls and I got dressed up and had a great girls time.  Which is something we don't do often.  Believe it or not we didn't spend much money at all.  I got some great deals at Bath and Body Works, thanks PatinTn., and my youngest Dd bought an $8.00 shirt and that was it.  They were having great sales, we just never found anything we could spend money on.  I should say it was the girls using their own money, and it's harder to spend when it's their's.LOL  One downside was that I got my wires crossed with Pat.  I left home without her phone # and didn't get in touch with her while at the mall.  On top of that, it looks like we were there at the same time and didn't even know it!  I could scream.  I am going to do better than this in a couple of months.  I really want to get all of us who live within a reasonable distance together soon.  Does anyone have an idea on a place?  Maybe something more like a park.  That way the kids can play and the moms can talk.  Anyway, I am up for suggestions.

As for the rest of the story, our Dawgs won!!  When we were leaving the mall, I called DH to see how much time we had left.  It was 4 mins. left in the 4th quarter.  We hit it perfectly.  That's the other downside.  I hate driving in Memphis.  I picked up DH and ofcourse, let him drive and we headed back South.  We stopped in Batesville and got a Back Yard Burger and then made it home about 11:00.  It was a long day but we had a great time.  I wouldn't want to do it everyday, mind you, but once in a blue moon, I can handle.

Blessings,

Trixi

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
