My husband farms with his 3of his brothers. One brother lives here and the others live 60 miles away where we farm also. We have a large farm as farms go, even for this area. Some of our close land is 30 minutes away. We do do a lot of driving to say the least.

As for you and your husbands 30 mile drive, I think you would have to evaluate the drive and the condidions that he would drive under. In big cities it's not uncommon for people to drive for an hour to get to work, some drive even more just so they can live in a better conditions.

If you have 50 acres will you use the land to off set the cost of the drive?
Will the drive be relaxing? I just came from town and only met @ 4 cars in my drive, often we can make the whole drive without seeing another car.

To me 30 miles isn't much of a drive.

Check into buying gas in bulk. You can buy when you think the price is low such as in spring before the summer prices set in and drive on that gas all summer. It all depends on your regulations as to what kind of tank you need for the gas.
