My two cents on the raid in Texas
Posted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 12:33 in Around the House - Post Comment
I haven't seen very much chatter about the raid in Texas on the LDS compound. I have thought on this and talked with my children about it and have come to the following conclusion. If the charges that have been raised against these people are accurate; child rape and abuse, then ok they need to be taken away and those men prosecuted. Zero tolerance!!
However, if all they had was one unsubstantiated phone call, how does that justify the ripping away of 416 children from their mothers. Not all of these children were involved and after seeing news reports the husbands/fathers even agreed to leave the compound instead. Don't get me wrong, I feel like this is a cult religion. Infact, we just watched September Dawn this weekend and I feel even stronger about this.
However, we live in a country based on freedom of religion. I fear that little by little we are loosing our rights as Christians. It has the mask of snuffing out cults but when will it be that Christianity is a cult.
Who is to say that in 20 yrs. a family who choose to live off the land, homeschool, and homechurch will not be considered a cult. That is my family. I just fear that my grandchildren will not be able to enjoy this simple lifestyle that my children enjoy because some power that be decides that it is not the right way to live. Let me reiterate, that if abuse is happening in these compounds, it should be ended!!!
I don't want to see us become a country that attacks a religion because the people are different. I found it odd that the big uproar was girls having children at 15 and 16. Have they not watched the news or walked into a public school. We have girls in our public schools having babies at 11 and 12. Where is the uproar? Let's put those girls momma's in jail.
It just seems a little one sided to me.

I haven't had a lot of time to process, we don't watch the news - but I read alittle lately online and I also have conflicting thoughts on it, and yes, the issue of freedom of religion has come to mind, especially in Cal. the social workers told the family since they are homeschoolers they ARE watched more closely and with more suspicion.....
thanks for your post

*I* think it is horrifying that a 50 year old man is procreating with a 13 year old girl.
*I* think it is horrifying that the 13 year old girl, doesn't know her 'birth mother' because 'this village' is raising the children.
*I* think it is horrifying that babies, are forced to have babies at the hands of men who are old enough to be their grandfathers.
I also wonder this: Were these men taking on their own children as wives? Were they taking on their nieces as wives? Was there relations, with relatives? How did they keep things 'straight'?
Most importantly: what does God say? What do the Scriptures say on this?
There is so much confusion in this situation.......and God is not the author of confusion.
Would we be more upset if it were 50 year old men being intimate with 13 year old boys?
Everyone wanted to burn the teacher who had 2 children with her 14 year old student to the stake.......She and the child said "they were in love" and everyone was sickened by it......Is this any different?
*I* agree with you, there is a fine line to be walked here.
We do have the freedom to exercise our religion in the great country............but do we have the 'right' to 'force' children to procreate as soon as they menstruate?
And now that this HAS happened.......what do we do with the 16 year old mother who has 3 kids and one on the way? You cannot take her babies away from her........but she is a baby herself........
Those who are called by His Name, Believers in Jesus Christ, should step up to the plate, take these children, and their children in, and show them Christ. Don't break up their families because of the sin of the man. How do we do this? Who do we contact? How do we take this 'bad thing' and work it out for the Good to Glorify the Lord????
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
My heart breaks for the children who had their innocence stolen from them in the name of god. My heart breaks that they were forced / brainwashed to do things that no child should be forced to do.

I second that Amen!!
I just worry that it will be us as Christians who will have our rights taken away because of this cult.
I also worry about how much of this is made up and how much is real. We live in a society that thrives on conflict such as this regardless if it is real or not. I can not imagine that the mothers of those children just stood by and allowed all of the terrible things happen that you described.
Blessings,

Cults are cults.
Unfortunately, most of them operate in the Name of God, when who they are actually serving is satan.
If a satanic cult is exposed for doing this exact same thing, in 'satan's name' then we, Believers, those who are called by His Name, would be OUTRAGED!!! We would be just freaking out.....
BUT
Are they not protected by the same "freedom of religion"? Because they are practicing the CLEAR opposite of what we believe, does that make what they have done, worse?
And if radical Islamic extremeists did the same thing, would we not be equally outraged? Sure, we would be freaking out all the more........
BUT
Are they not protected by the same "freedom of religion?" Because they do their deeds in the name of another god, somehow that makes them more abominable?
Heavens NO! Their deeds are clear, because their god is clearly...false or evil. But when someone does these things in God's Name.......we want to try to find the 'good in it', or try to 'protect ourselves' from further government intrusion.
We have laws on the books when we can get married. We have laws on the books that protect children from predators. One blogger not too long ago was very "pro-castrate" as were all of her commenters, for child predators.
What this cult did was not only breaking God's Laws, but they were breaking the law of the land. And God commands us to abide by this 'law of the land' so long as it does not go against His Law.
What this cult did was blaspheme the Name of God.
They used manipulation (witchcraft) to brainwash young innocent children. The men in charge, brainwashed the women and their children to carry out their wicked deeds.
They violated Gods Laws and the laws of the land in God's Name.
Believers.......Bible Believing, Holy Spirit indwelled, Children of God should take this opportunity to share the True Gospel of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, because we have fallen asleep and become so politically correct........we can not stand up, and call false prophets what they are.
AntiChrists.
There are ka-zillions of Scriptures that condemn what was done on this compound. Old and New Testament. Straight out of the Mouth of Jesus............
We have made our own mess here by being wishy washy, not knowing Truth, not sharing Truth, and watering down God's Word to 'fit our own lifestyles'.
Now........we, who are called by His Name are given an opportunity to share Truth in light of this lie satan has created in God's Name.
What will we do now?

Laura,
Again,
I agree 100%. My comment is that I want the powers that be to have clear evidence before they are able to go in and take children away. I do not want someone to be able to walk in my house and tell me how I need to be living. I do not want to lose my freedom of religion. I am not talking about criminals rights, I am talking about law abiding citizens who are following their own convictions of God.
It seems like you feel like I am defending them if they have committed all of these crimes. Which I am not!!!!!! I think I have said that over and over.

Hello Trixi!
It has been such a long time since I was able to catch up with you. I think of you often and was coming on tonight to see how the Lord was leading you regarding adoption! I am blessed to be your Sister in Christ and look forward to hearing of the work He is doing in your heart and home, please share when you can! About this TX topic... I said the EXACT same thing to my husband the other day. We have been praying for all those involved.
the raid...

I have the same feeling about that situation as you! Now that they have found the call was a fake Give those children back!!!! I wouldnt want my teen married with babies but their beliefs are their beliefs...They were raised differently. Just like the times of our grandmothers and great grandmothers that married EXTREMEMLY young. And I dont see the police knocking down the doors of anyone else's home with a pregnant unwed teenage mother in the "real world"....These children will be even more terrified of the "real world" than they were before. In an already crowded system this can not end well..
++++++++++++++++++++++
I hadn't even thought about our grandmother's ages. I know my brother in law's mother was 16 when she married and had him at 17. His father is a professor at a local University. I am sure they didn't think they were doing anything illegal.
Blessings,
Trixi

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
