Student of the Word Curriculum...... Teaching the Word of God as a curriculum...

In light of my post yesterday on the Church of Oprah, Dh and I have decided to take a closer look at what we are teaching in our homeschool and why. We have been very academic the last 6 years of homeschooling. I have worried over what Math programs to use and this year the big worry has been what Chemistry program to use. I have never really pondered on what Bible curriculum to use. Don't get me wrong, we feel strongly about living, really living our Christian walk. We read the Word of God and we meditate and memorize. These things are important to us. However, sometimes they can be lax and put on the back burner for a spelling test or writing assignment. I believe that that mentality needs an adjustment. I believe that my children need to be more prepared for a life of warfare with Satan and His spirits here on earth. 1 John 3:24-4:6
We are looking at using a curriculum called Student of the Word next year. It looks to be very Bible intensive. Has anyone used it and what are your thoughts?
I saw this quote on another blog and decided to add it to my sidebar. It is so fitting as a reminder of what we should yearn for.
“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
Have a great day and blessings to all,
Trixi

The Bible study I am doing, is Bible Study Fellowship. This year, we are studying the book of Matthew.
Each Wednesday, they give a lesson, notes and a 'green sheet' that outlines that weeks lesson.
I use this green sheet as my 'guideline' with the kids......
We talk every day about the Lord. When something big (like this oprah garbage) comes up...or it's just an every day commercial...or better yet, when we are at a book store, and a man reaches for a p*rn mag, sees my daughter, and puts it back and walks away..........it is a chance to see what Scripture says. What does God say about all this??
The kids see me digging in the Word, not 'christian books', for answers. Any thing written by man, is tainted. God's Word is Pure.
My big thing is this: The answers are in the Word. I don't want them to look to christian authors for answers or advice. Just God.
I pray that I am training them up in the Way they should go!!

We do the same things that is why I am leaning towards a more God's Word type of curriculum.
