The infamous Crockpot

I had been using the same crockpot since shortly after DH and I first got married.  It was about 16+ years old. It has served our family well and I still have not gotten rid of it.  However, the knob had come off and it only cooked on High.  I have looked at new ones for a while but just could not part with the $40.00 to $50.00 a new one would cost me.  Moving here, the local WalMart has great clearance items and every so often I wonder down their clearance isle.  About 2 months ago, I found my greatest find yet.  A Rival 6qt. crockpot.  It was on clearance for $20.00.  I snatched it up.  Here is an example of the crockpot I purchased.  Although, 2 months ago it was hot and I wasn't really using it often.  That all changed Monday night.  We had a cold front come in.  So this week I have been getting good use out of my crockpot.  Tuesday night I could a beef vegetable soup, Wednesday I made crockpot chili, and tonight I am slow cooking a pork roast for Barbecue sandwiches.  I love a crockpot!!!

Here's a great crockpot recipe link:

Vegetable Beef Soup
1pound cooked and drained ground beef or venison
1 bag frozen carrots
1 bag frozen corn
1 bag frozen green beans
1 bag frozen peas
1 bag frozen okra
2 cans tomatoes
salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder
I put all of this in my crockpot and season to our tastes.  I cook it all day long and serve it with a pan of cornbread or crackers.

Have a great day!

That does sound good! I like to use the slow cooker as I don't like thinking of things for dinner anyway. This way, in it goes and I forget about it. I have to say that I do use the oven on mediocre days to warm the house when wood fire would be a bit to much!

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
