I am dealing with some health issues.....

I have not felt like my usual chipper self for quite a while. I have really just shrugged it off to moving and leaving family and amazing friends. Also, I have just been sooooo busy. I never really had one thing to pinpoint but I just do not feel good. Anyway, I went to my yearly ob/gyn appt. last month and she looked me over and really didn't tell me much. Well, I was feeling even worse last week and Dh asked me to go to the Dr. I had to find one because it had been sooo long since I had been for myself. Well, it just so happens that we know a homeschooling Dr. that will take my insurance. He ran a battery of tests, x-rays, and an EKG last Friday. I went back in today and was a little bombshelled. My cholesterol was 264. I wanted to cry. Also, he thinks I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (I rarely ovulate). He put me on Metformin and a farely strict diet to help get my cholesterol down. I am headed for a heart attack or diabetes. Neither one, do I want. I guess all of this Southern food and BUTTER, which I love is slowly killing me. But it is soooo good!!! I am praying about all of this because I am also one who does not like Dr.'s or prescriptions. However, I do know that the cholesterol is what is causing me to feel so bad, so I am going to do what I have to do. Which means I will start my day in the morning with a bowl of oatmeal. So think about me because I would much rather be having biscuits, eggs, and bacon oooh, oooh or pancakes. I think I am just making it worse.LOL
Blessings,
Trixi

Praying for you Trixi. I have had some health issues too, and its not something a busy mom has time for...
I'm praying that you'll have success with this way of eating and will see results.

This is a great place to collect information on how to control your body with all natural things!
I have been visiting this site since its inception, and chatted with the owner of the board many years before that!
Check it out!!

I know how hard it is not to eat all that yummy stuff! I struggle with that too, but I really want to be healthy as I get older, and I am sure our families want us around a long time!
It is a battle, but we are tough, right?! We can do it!
Now where is my donut?
Just kidding....
It is OK to have that stuff once in a while, we just can't make it part of our everyday eating. Start walking, eat your oatmeal, try to eat fresh fruits and veggies as much as you can, and once in a while treat yourself!
As I am writting this I am talking myself into it too! lol
so sorry!

I was shocked to hear that my cholesterol was high a few years ago. That is actually what prompted me to begin grinding my own wheat and baking bread and the such with it. My cholesterol came down within normal range in no time with that simple change.
Also, my husband is taking Niacin (a supplement) to help lower his. He hasn't had his recheck yet, but if you google it I'm sure you'll find a lot of info online.

Often we want to make these changes but lack the conviction to do so.
Sounds like you have that conviction building now. It can be a good thing. Think of the wonderful health benefits you can glean from all of this. It's all a lot to deal with as you get started, but it will get better.

I also have PCOS, and it is a bummer to say the least. Weight gain is one of the side effects that I have suffered. My cholesterol is still ok. Metformin does help somewhat. I have been told by my doctor that the quick and easy fix for it is to go on birth control pills. Apparently it is very common! 2 of my close friends also have it. I've done a lot of research on it and supposedly about 10% of all women have it. Good luck and I hope things improve for you!

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
