New Computer...Tell me what you think....

During all of this moving stuff, we have also decided to purchase a new computer.  My two daughters will be doing Math on the computer next year (Teaching Textbooks) and my oldest DD will probably be doing English and Science on the computer also (Switched on Schoolhouse).  Deanna has very generously offered to let me look at her copy of SOS English.  I will make my decision after viewing it.  Anyway, this will tie up our 1 dinosaur computer.  So DH said that we should get another one.  We are going to take all the junk off of this one and it will solely be a school computer.  This leads me to my question..... What kind of computer do you have and what are the must haves? 

I had a Dell and after 3 years the mother board went out!  This was some kind of disappointment.  However, I do know that it could happen with any brand.  Anyway, I am looking at atleast 1GB. memory.  I have been told that the memory is what makes downloading pictures and so forth easier.  I have also heard you need atleast 512mb to run the new Windows Vista.  Although, I would prefer to have Windows XP.  I am not good with change.LOL  Also, I have heard it is rather difficult.  These are my thoughts, now tell me what you think....

Well....dear eldest son said he forgot to go to the post office to mail the CD to you for me last week....
so, it's coming this week when I get into town I guess.

Our computer selection went from desktop to notebooks for schooling. We bought 2 of them:
HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC's from Circuit City.
They have Centrino Duo Mobile technology with an Intel Core Duo Processor, 2 MB L2 cache
We run XP on both of them
they have 1024 MB of memory, 200 GB of storage (dual harddrives) and some LightScribe Super Multi 8x DVD+R/RW drive something or another.
So far, we haven't come close to utilizing the space on here, and haven't had any troubles with either of them.....well, aside from **someone** pulling out the power cord, leaving the end inside the computer. But, we paid for the extra warranty stuff (you know, that one where you can drop it out the window of your car, run it over, and still get it fixed for free....or dump a bowl of cereal across it....we do have that wild child, you know!).
