All the things going on at our homestead....

Where to begin......  Well, DH, just got home Friday night from being in New Jersey for 2 weeks.  He said he was sooo glad to be back in the South (no offense).  I just laughed.  We put him straight to work on Saturday.  We put up our pool.  We got a new one this year.  It is 18 X 48.  We started filling it up Sat. afternoon and then did some yesterday and it still needs a little more filling.  I hope to finish it today. 

We also, worked on the gate for our chicken run.  I hope tonight, after DH gets home, to start working on the fencing for the run.  We have most of the posts up.  We just have to stretch the wire out around it.  The chickens are quickly running out of room in their little brooder box, so I have been letting them out to free range some during the day.  So far, so good.  The cats and the dogs have gotten along pretty good with them.  We hope to finish their house this next weekend.  However, I am going to go ahead and get them in their pen as soon as we finsih their run.  I will just put their brooder box in there.  That way they will have more protection than just running around the yard. 

I went to my dad's last week and brought back an old iron bed and an old cabinet style singer sewing machine, both were my grandmother's.  The sewing machine still has the original instruction book.  I am so excited about it!!  I hope to have time this week to try it out.  As for the bed, it is painted a pink color right now.  I will be sanding it down and painting it a hammered rustic color.  It will go in my girls' room.  They have an old iron bed in there now that I have already redone. 

The garden is growing by leaps and bounds.  I hope to have squash before the end of the week.  The peas and watermelon are really taking off as well.

What a blessing to have hubby back home. I'm sure everyone was excited at his return.
Our chicks are growing so much. I didn't realize I'd missed having eggs hatching so much until we did out these this year. I've missed having chickens under foot!
I hope you can share some pictures of the bed and sewing machine. I'd love to see them.
