Pet Food Recall and buying American

If you have been following Little Slice of Heaven's dog woes then you know that she is having issues with a poisoned dog food.  I try not to do posts like this as they draw out the blog trolls but here goes.  Even though I know a dog is just a dog, if my Golden Retriever gets poisoned, I will be mad.  Not just at the chinese who sent this poison over here but also at our government for not protecting us better than this.  Our farmer's have restrictions like crazy but other countries can send there products over here without adhereing to the same standards.  It is wrong, wrong, wrong.  I know it is all politics but I have to say I am sick and tired of our current political system that cares more about the almighty vote(dollar) than the people.  This same poison that has been found in our pet foods could also be in the Catfish sent over here from China.  I encourage you to ask what the country of origin is on all of your seafood, as well.  Buy American.  Here is a company that sells American made Dog Food and they will deliver it to your door.  I have not used them yet but I just heard of them and will be giving them a call.

AMEN.
Look at all the farmers and homesteaders who simply want to sell some of their produce, baked goods, fresh milk, animals, etc. and all the hoops the government makes them jump through. Yet we will bring in whatever any other country wishes to sell here without as much fuss. They can check one company, one barrel, one shipment and OK hundreds of them based on that.
We have done this to ourselves. We are a country that doesn't produce our needs anymore. We've out-sourced ourselves into a slow, painful death march.
I am so sorry for the death she is dealing with. Pets can be a very important part of our lives and families, and only someone without a heart or an ounce of compassion would stand up for the cowards who would even consider doing this sort of thing. The deaths from this tainted dog food are not simple deaths -- they are slow and horrible for the pet.

I agree, but.........

Amen gals!
Americans need to start taking pride in what they make, be it cars, dog food, clothes, whatever.
We have become lazy and greedy and it shows in the quality and craftsmanship that goes into American made products. That is why so many buy the 'cheaper' stuff from China and other countries ((um, that HATE us!)).
The unions drive the cost of American made products up, but they do not insure that for this extra cost you will get superior products!! It's sad.
I so badly want to buy American........but so much of it is so poorly made, it doesn't last!!

Children of local farmers could start their own business' by making organic dog and cat food and selling it at Farmers Markets. That would be a great "life lesson"!!

You would be amazed what our "American" pet food contains as well. I am trying to remember the name of the books I read it in, but it was in 3 different...One of them was:
The Nature of Animal Healing : The Definitive Holistic Medicine Guide to Caring for Your Dog and Cat by Martin Goldstein, he's got some stuff in there that I dont agree with, but I really like his chapter on animal food!

One Step Further

I think you've got a point, but I think it goes even further than saying buy American...I think buy local is a much better slogan. Americans are just as corrupt and money hungry as those in other countries. Big companies don't care a lick about us (or our pets, as you're addressing here). However, knowing the local farmers really does help some with the products we get. They know us, and if they have any conscience at all, that should make a difference in the product that they produce.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
