The Country Life is Calling....

My DC and I love the Waltons and I bought them a couple of seasons of the Waltons. Anyway, we were watching the episode where John Boy goes to New York City to find out about the publishing of his Novel. When he comes home he just feels the call of New York on him. I found this so odd to me . Being called by the hustle and bustle of millions of people all on top of one another. Then it hit me, it is no different than me. I feel called to a simpler existence. DH and I, neither one were raised in the country. However, we do live in a small college town. When college is in there are about 40,000 people but when school is out there are about 20,000 people. I can remember when we got a Super Walmart about 10 years ago. It was a big event. We both lived in neighborhoods though. After marrying, we lived in one neighborhood or another for about 15 years. We have lived out here on the land for about 2 years and we love it!! My children have room to run. We have a place to keep animals and garden to our hearts desire. God is good in town and in the country. If we had to go back to town, I would be content but oh, how I love living out. I feel like the country was calling up all along and we just didn't listen.
Blessings,
Trixi

We all love the Waltons too! We've even visited Waltons Mountain museum.
I've always felt called to "the country" despite having grown up in the suburbs. My father frequently took us on long walks in the woods outside of town.
DH, on the other hand, never had much desire to move beyond the sidewalks. He did it for me really, and now you couldn't get him to move back to the city for anything! Something about that beautiful, starry sky at night and fresh air...
Blessings,
Tracie

Trixi,
I hear your heart......... I too grew up in town -- but married a country boy! :)
The country has been calling me for years.......... I remember dreaming and pouring over country magazine and dreaming about country living...... and now that I am hear, I have to pinch myself to tell me it's true! My parents think I am nuts - and wonder where did I get this desire to live in the country ~ AND then we started talking and realized my grandparents on both sides had been raised in farming villages, and it was in "my blood"....... so you see my love of the country........
I agree with you - there is no better place!
Have a great day!
gloria
I am the same way.....

I was raised in the city ( the last 10 years at home) and when I married my husband, he was living in a quieter small neighborhood in town. At night I could not fall asleep with out the sounds of traffic and the city bus driving past the house.
We now have lived out here in the country for 19 years and boy, you couldn't get me to go back for anything. We are even talking about moving further out because people are selling the farmland around here and building "neighbors" near us. We love people, just not so close to us when we go home.
I loved your post and thoughts on this.
See ya,
Pat

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
