We have chicks and I am so excited... Oh yeah and one duck...

Well my mom, in the heat of  losing her mind (LOL), decided to get some baby chicks and a duck for the grandkids to play with for Easter.  So she did this on Friday.  She liked them so much that she decided to go back and get some more.  Well, her CoOp was out of them.  Anyway, she went to a local Mennonite community about 20-30 mins. from my house to pick up a cake from the bakery on Saturday.  While there she inquired about chicks and they told her of a feed and seed store 6 miles away.  She got a few more chicks.  Lastnight, we went to eat at her house for Resurrection Sunday dinner and we fell in love with her chicks.  I came home with 5 chicks and a duck.  Then she came over this morning and I went back with her to get her 3 more chicks and me 3 more chicks.  I don't exactly know what all I have but the ones I got today are Auraucana and Buff Orphington.  I do think I have 2 Rhode Island Reds.  I will take some pics as soon as I can.  DH asked what are we going to do with the duck.  I said I have no earthly idea.  He is already making plans for my coop.  The chicks are about a week old and very healthy.  I am so glad we found a place where we can get them 1 at a time.  I had real reservations of getting them through a hatchery in the mail.  This is perfect.  God is good.  Right now, they are living in a hall bathroom with a heat lamp hanging over them.  It is too funny.  This may trully be what making do and living a more simple life is.LOL

Blessings,

Trixi

How fun!

I'm sure you and the kids will enjoy the chicks. My kids and I raised some up for my brother a couple of times and it was fun, but sad for the kids when they were big enough to give back to him. They still get to see them when we visit him, but it's not the same as having them in your backyard to see every day. Maybe one day we can have our own!

Blessings,
Carol

I can not wait till we have a place to keep them. I just need for my husband to make us a coop. We have too many "vistors" at night around here so we need a completely closed up coop and pen.

Please keep us informed as to how it goes with them.
Pat

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
