Has anyone ever used the Prairie Primer?....

I am thinking of ordering the Prairie Primer by Margie Gray.

My youngest DD loves the whole Little House series.  I think she and DS will love this unit study.  However, it is pricey so I would like to get some feedback on it.

Thank you,

Trixi

We have...can't find it now as I think it's in a box in the barn...but it is a great addition to the LHotP series. The girls (and Matthew, when we got to Farmer Boy) enjoyed it a lot.

We are looking toward getting the Green Gables unit study next.

Me too.

I have been looking at that too. My kids love to watch Little House on the Prairie and we have been to the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. I am anxious to see what everyone says about it.

Hi Trixi!
We have used this a little this year. We got through the first 2 books and we plan on picking it back up over the summer. I'm working through it with my 10 yr. old daughter. She LOVES Little House on the Prairie! The books AND the show. I think that if you like pioneer things that you will love this curriculum as well. You might want to see if you local library has it. Our's does.
Blessings,
Miki

We have it too. It is still packed away in storage. But I would like to use it at some point in our school future.
It should be fun even for the boys to do.

Blessings,
Debi

wanted to add, that you should be able to find it out there used. I believe that I got mine off of Amazon through one of the used book sellers. That is where I get most any books that I buy.
You might also be able to find it on Ebay.

Blessings,
Debi

We used it...

We used it for one year. I didn't get all the way through it, but I added things to the study. It was for the most part easy to use. We didn't have good luck learning our states through it, though... although that was mostly my fault... lack of diligence! I added a book that I found at my library to my US history studies for the kids when they were younger... it was Cooking Up US History, I believe. It's a bright yellow cover. REcipes from early america and onward. Plus books to read for extra reading. I also found a book from CL Press (I think) that had a listing of books if you are wanting to study US History and the books were grade appropriate... so helpful for teaching different grade levels and that was pretty cheap. I forget the name of the book, though. I will try to find it if you are interested. ...Oh and look for the book online... check out vegsource.com/homeschool for their swap boards... I got mine there for less than $20 with shipping.
Warmly, ~Melissa

Definitely go for it

We used both FUFI (Further Up and Further In) and the Anne of Green Gables unit study. My daughter was too old to use the Prairie Primer, but if it is in the same vein as the ones I mentioned it will be worth every penny.

Hey, Trixi!
I just stopped in to say hi.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I've never used the Prairie Primer, but
my kids have always loved the Little House

We are going through them again!
Enjoy!

Candy

I was looking at that for my dd. I was thinking she was too young. She will be in the third grade. How old were your girls whe you started it? I am sure you will benefit from it. I have heard nothing but good reviews from that.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
