Mama....taken from Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping

I have been reading Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping. It is an excellent read. I love the fact that she calls it keeping the home instead of house keeping. Here is a poem in the back of the book about Mama.
Mama's Mama on a winter day,
Milked the cows and fed them hay,
Slopped the hogs, and saddled the mule,
And got the children off to school.
Did the washing, mopped the floors,
Washed the windows and did some chores.
Cooked a dish of home-dried fruit,
Pressed her husband's Sunday suit,
Swept the parlor, made the bed,
Baked a dozen loaves of bread.
Split some wood and lugged it in,
Enough to fill the kitchen bin,
Cleaned the lamps and put in oil,
Stewed some apples she thought might spoil,
Churned the butter, baked a cake,
Then exclaimed,"For mercy's sake,
The cows have got out of the pen!"
Went out and chased them in again,
Gathered the eggs and locked the stable,
Returned to the house and set the table,
Cooked a supper that was delicious,
And afterwards washed all the dishes,
Fed the cat, sprinkled the clothes,
Mended a basket full of hose,
Then opened the organ and began to play,
"When You Come to the End of a Perfect Day."
I just love this poem. I love the work ethic that the women of a day gone by possessed.
Blessings,
Trixi

Love the poem. I can relate to some of it, but not all of it, but it reminds me of my Daddy's mama. She worked like that all day "back in the day". I hope y'all have a blessed Easter!!

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
