Whoever knew that finding a new home would be so much headache.......

It has been so hard to find a home closer to DH work.  Right now he is commuting an hour and 20 minutes one way.  It is our goal to atleast cut that in half.  However, we live in a town of about 25,000 people.  It is also a college town with rental property everywhere.  The town my DH is working in has about 4,000 people with no rental property.LOL  We decided to rent because we don't know if DH job will keep us there more than 2 years.  If we were to have to sell that would be a whole other headache, as things do not sell well there either.  It is a very rural area.  Which I kind of like but oldest DD calls it Mayberry.  I just have to laugh at that.LOL
Well, Dh called me from work on Friday to tell me that he was going to look at a 4 bedroom house at lunch.  He called me back and said it would need some work.  Well, that seems to be the story of our life.  I then drove down to see it on Saturday.  Anyway, it is an old house.  Which I have to say I love that part.  It has a very large front and side porch, which I also love.  Then you walk in the door.  It is cosmetically in need of help.  The floorings are the worst part.  It just has old carpet and linoleum.  I pulled back a piece of the carpet, hoping for hardwood, no such luck.LOL  It is extremely, oddly, laid out.  Which is not uncommon for older houses.  One bedroom is at the very front of the house, which would be our bedroom.  Then there are two bedrooms somewhat together, which would be the kids bedrooms.  Then a bedroom off of the kitchen with a door going to the outside.  That would be the school room.  It has 2 bathrooms right near each other.  The other odd thing is the heating situation is 2 window unit air conditioners that have heat.  This would have to be addressed.  We would need some other source of heat.  It doesn't get very cold here but when it does I want to be warm. LOL  Not to mention that would not be very energy efficient.  The upside is that it looks to be in a descent area.  It is right across the street from a church.  It is also a very large house.  Much larger than our current house.  It's an older house, so 2 of the bedrooms are just huge.  The dining room, kitchen and living room are also very large.  I would have a school room which I have always wanted but not ever had.  I could get our piano out of my bedroom and into the living room.  I would have a place for my computer desk.  I really think with a good scrubbing, some paint, and a few rugs, we could really make it look nice.  Back to the downsides, it costs about $100.00 more a month than we really wanted to spend.  However, it is still cheaper than what we are paying now.  We don't know how much land is with it either.  Right now, we are just praying for God's guidance.  He knows where we are going to be in a year and I just want us to be in His will.  So many times I have followed my own will and it just never works.  I want our family to be right in the middle of God's will.  Anyway, if you think of us please say a prayer.  We are in such limbo as to what God would have us to do.
Blessings,
Trixi

You could save and go RVing too, Trixi!

Thanks for the blessings on our new endeavour. I know what such a long commute can do to a man's energy too... I'm praying the Lord leads you to the home He has for you all.

Love,

The house actually sounds lovely. But, I enjoy older homes and hubby and I have done remodeling so that's kind of what we look for in a house. If this is a house to buy, you might consider offering lower than the asking price. If the owner really wants to sell it, you might have the opportunity to get it cheaper. If it's God's will, it'll work out nicely. It always does. Keep praying and you'll get your answer, one way or the other. The other thing is if it's cheaper than what you're paying now, then it's still a better bargain... I'll keep you in my prayers!!

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
