Mrs. Burns asked a question about Rapadura sugar.....Here goes...

Mrs. Burns commented on my sugar post asking about Rapadura.  Well here is the jest of what I have found.  It is also unrefined evaporated sugar cane crystals/juice.  It seems to me from the reading that it is equivalent to the Sucanat or Turbinado.  It has more of a molasses taste, as does Sucanat.
Rapadura

Delivering flavor and superior baking results, Rapadura is the perfect sweetener for your favorite foods and drinks. Simply substitute 1 cup of Rapadura for 1 cup of white sugar in all of your recipes.

Rapadura captures the sweet essence of sugar cane - organically. Harvested from sustainable family farms in Bolivia and through the Hand in Hand™ fair trade program, Rapadura is an unrefined sugar prized for its unique caramel flavor and fine grain texture. This deliciously pure sugar retains a beautiful golden color and offers unmatched nutritional value because-unlike other sugars-it is not separated from the molasses stream during squeeze-dried processing. You can truly taste the difference of Rapadura whole organic sugar.

Blessings,
Trixi

I use Rapadura now and then, but can't afford to all the time due to the high price. I've not noticed it giving anything a molasses flavor, but the more you use of it the more it will color the final product (just ask my oldest kiddo who did not like the peach cobbler turning out a VERY golden brown LOL).

I'd like to try these different sugars, but not too sure where to get them. I might try Whole Foods, but I know they are going to be expensive. There is a country market owned by Mennonites in a neighboring county that might have some, so if I can get down that way, I'll have to go by there and see. Those are the only two places that I can think of. We don't have a co-op like you have. Our co-op is a farming co-op. They just sell stuff for farms and gardens.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
