A new member to our family!!!!!:)

This is the reason why I havent blogged in a while. Here is the newest member of our family. Her name is Ginger. She is a beautiful bay, quarter horse that we got on Saturday. I can't tell you how excited every member of our family is that God allowed us to find her. She is everything we (especially my oldest daughter Katherine) have been praying for. We went to see her on Friday and it was raining. My girls rode her anyway. She did fine even though the conditions were lacking. We didnt get her then. We went back the next day and we made our final decision. The girls have saddled her up every day since. My husband and I are not big horse people. However, our girls are horse people. We are learning though. This colic thing has me a nervous wreck. We changed her feed before we new that horses stomachs are so sensitive. The feed has been changed now for 3 1/2 days. I pray that she can handle it. I hate that we are going into this so ignorant. We have read a good bit but hands on is 90% of the battle. We have been stalling her at night and letting her out during the day. She really seems to be taking to us. We are really taking to her. We all go out to the barn and check on her before we go to bed.
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

Congratulations.......You are now owned by a horse!! Our 2nd daughter was horse crazy and since dh and I already loved and knew horses, we dove in. We bought her a horse, but of course we wanted to ride too so we bought another. Then our 2.5 acres weren't enough, so we sold our house and bought 10 acres and built a new house. We now have three horses and daughter #4 is wanting a pony......Of course with the horses we needed a trailer..... Did I mention we are owned by Rusty, Summer and 'the new mare'....... Oh, for good horse information check out www.manepoints.com and feel free to contact me if you would like more links.....

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate the insight, perhaps I really can't save any more on groceries and still buy healthy food, in which case I just will find some where else to cut corners. Congratulations on your new horse.

What a blessing. We love horses too Take it easy on changeing the feed, they can colic fast. Why do they say "healthy as a horse" when horses are so easy to get sick? . We have 3 horse at this time, ( we had 6 last spring). We feed our horses different than most people. Our horses run on 3/4 acre. They are free feed , we give each horse a big flake of hay, and pellets and also beet pulp. The night before we soak in water, enough to cover it plus more, 1 scoop beet pulp per horse, and from 2 to 4 scoops of pellets ( 2 scoops for the pony, 3 scoops for the arabian, 4 scoops for the quater horse). We have feed this way for years and to be honest we have never had any colic problems. Enjoy your horse .God Bless,mj

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
