Keeping the fresh baked bread fresh.....

I love to make bread.  I make it several times a week.  I love it hot out of the oven with a little butter and some strawberry preserves on it.  The problem is how are you keeping it from getting hard and stale by the next day?  I cover it but it still doesn't stay soft and mushy.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Trixi

I put ours in a ziplock bag (gallon size) and it works great. package it when warm, not hot.
tupperware makes a bread container also for homemade bread if its your size.

Hi
I take a stick of butter to the outside of mine as soon as I take it from the oven. Then place in ziploc bags. It keeps it nice and soft.

I was really impressed with LadyPoet33s bread recipe. It kept really well for days.

When I was little my Grandmother kept her white bread in a metal cream can from the farm with a tight fitting lid. It was also delivered to our house (well next door and some was for us) and put into a cream can for us to pick up.

I keep mine in a plastic bag too.

rub warm loaf with a stick of butter to keep the crust soft then wrap it while still just a bit on the warm side...keeps it soft for a long time.
Then again, what do I know??? We do a 6-loaf batch here and it never lasts more than a couple days at best! No time for it to get even the least bit on the stale side around here!

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
