Blackberries and Racoons

My son noticed this morning that the blackberries are beginning to ripen so he and our guests decided to go pick some.  They were combing the hillside and ran up on a hollowed out dead tree.  Inside, there was a mother racoon and her babies.  We are not sure how many and I tell you I am floored that she let us get so close.  It was a neat site to see.  I again am so thankful for the opportunity to homeschool and be home with these sweet children.  I can not imagine not being apart of these teachable moments.  We left momma racoon alone and continued picking blackberries.  We got 3 1/2 cups and there will be tons ready in the next couple of days.  I have a blackberry cobbler in the oven as we speak.  If any of you have a great recipe I would love to try it......

I love blackberries - but when I get close to the vines i break out in hives - I am so allergic to the vines and leaves. I remember going blackberry picking with my Mom and an aunt when I was growing up. Oh, my, what fun we had.
But, now I have a friend from work who gives me a jar of her blackberry jam occasionally.
And I can almost smell that blackberry cobbler you have in the over. I remember Mom's and they were soooooo goooood!.
