The longing of a sacred place called "HOME"

I rarely get the chance to post here anymore but love to visit and read all of my old stomping grounds.  I found this poem recently and even placed it in my sidebar at my other blog.  I love it and find it very profound and even though the words were written in the 1800's, they still apply to my life today.

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.
Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.
Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.

By: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

I miss the likemindedness and friendship here but I love the ease of use over there. Uploading pictures over there is soooo much easier and I love pictures.

Oh I love that poem! Thank you trixi for sharing that with us all -- it is exactly how I feel about the home place... my mom, bless her heart had to work to help dad out... they were immigrants and for the first time in her life at the age of 40 found herself in the work force.... but she quickly learned she wanted to be home.. so she set up daycare in our basement and for 25 yrs was able to raise us girls and other kids too! It was a blessing to me growing up - as mom was there when I got home as well as 10 other little people... that is where I learned how to care for babies and toddlers was by helping out mom. I was the youngest of 5 girls and perhaps had my mom not had the daycare I would have been clueless on how to care for children! She always cooked a home made meal each night and we shared the family meal table together...... they were great parents, not perfect but truly dedicated to their home and family.
Thanks for posting on my blog about working out of the home -- this is such a "touchy" topic for Christians and non christians alike..... things have been tight this year with $ but we have repeatedly made the choice to keep me at home with the family.... my husband works like a dog, but he insists I am to be home... his mom worked out of the home and he hated it.. so like you and your husband we have made the choice to choose a different path....
God bless you, trixi - - I miss you blogging here so I am so glad you do stop by from time to time and share with us all.
Gloria

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
