Zany for Zinnias!

Posted in Jacobs Farm

I admit it ~

I'm in love with Zinnias.

They are such prolific blooming annuals and I can not tell you how much I've enjoyed having them in the garden this year.  They stand strong and tall even in this summer's drought.  They are always hosting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds whenever I trod out to the garden.  Their blooms last a long, long time and they make excellent cut flowers.  I'm hooked and will not garden without them again.  Here are a few photos of our Zinnias we've mixed in with our boxed vegies this year:

I wish I had fields of them!  Here are some online ordering sources for Zinnias:

A girl after my own heart. Other than roses, Zinnias have to be my favorite. There are so many different kinds and they grow very easily once planted in the ground. I've had them in my flowerbeds for years and wouldn't go a summer without them. They are make beautiful bouquets for in the house.

July 12, 2006 - I love 'em too!

They're just so cheerful! Besides, anything that thrives in a southern summer is a favorite hands down! My grandma always grew zinnias and larkspur in her front flower beds. When I have a front flower bed, they'll be in mine, too! Have you seen those cool green ones called Envy???

Hugs from Texas,

Catherine

Hey, we planted a 'hodge-podge' flower garden, just put all the different packets of seeds in a jar, give 'em a toss, and plant! Among the mass are, yep, zinnias and they're gorgeous. Amen to surviving a hot southern summer, they seem to thrive on it! I love your photos, thanks for sharing.

They look beautiful! I'd love to grow some myself but I read in Wikipedia that they're warm/hot climate flowers and I don't think Finland qualifies in either of those... I'll just have to come and look at your pictures often : )

Dear Harriett,

I remember you from when I had my older Homestead Blogger Blog this Winter past.

Thank you for the nice comment about the mini portion I showed of our flower garden on my blog.

Your Zinnias are gorgeous! This was my first season with them as well. I have a mixture of flowers in the area, but love the Zinnias more than all the rest. :) I may just plant hundreds of those next Spring! Ha ha! I'd love to see that green one someone spoke of.

Have a wonnnnnderful rest of your Wednesday, Harriett. Warmly, Robin

Love them. Mike picked up some seeds this year from somewhere and the ones we have growing are huge and gorgeous. I have been taking them to the market on Saturdays just to liven up the booth, not to sell. Everyone comments on them. Just so simple and lovely. Cool off down there. Might be time for another beach trip......Denise
