Square Foot Gardening: Making the Grid

Posted in Gardening
For those of you just starting the adventure of gardening, I have some good news! Today I will be doing a tutorial on making the square foot garden grid out of basic cotton kitchen string.

Step one:
Measure the perimeter of your box and mark off every 12 inches.

Step two:
Hammer a nail at each mark.

Step three:
Take your cotton string and wrap around the nail two times. This prevents it from slipping while you are doing step four!
Step four:
Tie your string in a good knot.

Step five:
Pull string over the bed to the nail directly across from where you just made a knot.

Step six:
Wrap string around nail two times to make sure your string doesn't droop into your bed.

Step seven
: Tie a knot and enjoy looking at your perfectly straight string!

Step eight:
Repeat previous 6 steps until your garden bed is finished!

There you have it! Hope you can try out this inexpensive way to grid your garden bed!

Tidy

Nice tutorial. BTW, that looks so nice and tidy. I like the look of the square foot gardening. Hubby just fenced ours in this weekend and I can't help but to keep looking at it....looks so organized :O)

I would have to agree about the tidiness of it all! I enjoy looking at those clean grid lines too! Kinda weird, but soothing! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
