Ushering

“Good evening, may I see your ticket? Okay, you’re in section CC. That’s right over this way. Please follow me….(climbing steps) You have seat numbers ten and eleven. Thank you, enjoy the show!” Tonight I ushered at “The Christmas Carol” play with seven other friends. The play was being preformed at the Hippodrome, a small but locally well-know theatre in our area. I volunteered to take people to their seats, along with Mary Anne, Liz, and Patrick. Before entering the theater, the four of us had been given a short briefing on how to read the tickets and get attendees to their assigned seats. Before I knew it, I was standing in the auditorium aisle, scratching my head over the seating sections. Let’s see, section C is right here – no, it’s over here! Hmmm… I wasn’t exactly sure what I would do after the first attendee showed me their ticket, but I decided that the position of usher (even if it IS a volunteer position that anybody can secure) carried a certain authority with it. So I decided to act like I knew what I was doing. I asked guests to please follow me, and told them right this way. I tried to study their ticket inconspicuously while climbing the steps. Out of the corner of my eye I silently counted the rows I passed until I reached where the ticket prescribed. Before long, I was familiar with the seating arrangements and could usher with confidence that wasn’t put on. It was a lot of fun! Once the attendees were seated, we ushers took the unoccupied seats and settled in to enjoy the show. It really was a good play! Very Christmas-sey. At the end the entire cast came on stage and invited the audience to join them in singing “Jingle Bells”.

After the show, we walked across the street to Starbucks. I’d never been to Starbucks before - it is amazing! The list of beverages is staggering, and the aroma of fresh coffee overwhelming. When Liz (a Starbucks frequent) heard this was my first time, she was excited and told me she wanted to “initiate” me by buying my first cup of Starbucks coffee. J I’m not used to the caffeine…I can hardly type now! J I’m not sure when I’ll fall asleep, but It was a neat evening, and one I’ll always remember.

Still high on a cinnamon frappachino, (grin)

Now that you have officially had your first Starbucks, be sure to try the White Chocolate Mocha. It is absolutely delicious and one of my favorites. I try not to have a lot of caffeine so I get decaf.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. – 2 Cor. 4:6
