I just rediscovered this tract I wrote a couple months ago, around the time when the "American Idol" contest was being held. If I ever printed it, I had in mind something resembling the American Idol logo on the cover along with the question, "Are you an idol?" For now, I'll just post it here on my blog. ;) Here's the inside text:

Are you an idol? Take this quick test to find out:
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you have indicated that you are an idol. That means that you value yourself and take pleasure in yourself more than God. You treat yourself like you think you’re a god. And that is a serious sin. The Bible says that the first commandment is “Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Again, God says, “You shall have no other gods (idols) before Me.” We have all put ourselves, or a host of other things, ahead of God. We have failed to see how righteous and wonderful He is, and have failed to reflect that in our lives. Instead of finding our complete satisfaction in Him, we have tried to find satisfaction in pleasing ourselves. That is an insult to God, and He has promised to punish those who do that with casting them away from Himself into a lake of fire, outer darkness, and everlasting judgment – Hell. If that were the end of the story, humankind would be a hopeless race. But because God is merciful and loving, He provided a way for us to be saved. That way is through His son, Jesus Christ. He is the only way we can be forgiven of our sins and put into a right relationship with God. Jesus was fully God, but He became a man, and even though He lived a perfect, sinless life on earth, He was put to death to die in our place, and rose again. Now, He has promised eternal life in God’s presence to those who repent (turn away from, reject, and abhor) their sin, accept His payment for their sins, count living for themselves as worthless, and begin to live a new life of glorifying God in the power that He supplies. If you realize that you have held yourself as an idol and know that you can never be good enough to save yourself from God's judgement, cry out to God to save you. Put your trust in Jesus Christ alone and in what He accomplished on the cross. Begin reading the Bible, get into a Bible-teaching church, and begin a new life for the glory of God.
